Closed: Complete 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by amsharma.

This ticket is to discuss Diversity Team To Do session for flock - https://flocktofedora.org/ as team.
Please put in your ideas here so that we can discuss in next meeting next week.
@jflory7 @bee2502 @jonatoni

@jonatoni and I are thinking about a workshop related to Fedora Women.
@amsharma what issues are we looking to tackle in the broader Fedora Diversity Team workshop ?

Here are some of the issues I think we should look at in the broader diversity team workshop -
https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/25

@bee2502 that is great.

I recommend that we should be doing it as team -
1. Fedora Women Workshop - https://etherpad.gnome.org/p/Flock_FedoraWomen (lead by bee and Jona)
2. Fedora Diversity Team to do session - https://etherpad.gnome.org/p/Flock_FedoraDiversity (lead by Amita and @jflory7 )

And let us start putting agenda in place for both the sessions as team collaboratively and get some feedback from others as well on the same (like from @marinaz @bex @meskarune )

There are benefits doing it in a collaborative and transparent manner as team -
1. We can take feedback openly.
2. If someone can't travel at last moment (I hope that won't happen), everyone know what is the main agenda and planning for the workshop/session and can fill up the gap or take ownership like it happened last year for Diversity Panel
3. We can also make sure that any workshop/session related to diversity don't overlap, so that all of the core team members can be present and participate actively in both the sessions.

For the next week, let's start putting things in etherpads, so that we can timely come up with final proposal. Hope to make good progress during flock this year as diversity team.

+1, for working with members of different teams and groups and understanding how they can work with diversity team. Gathering volunteers for event planning and onboarding new members in diversity team from diverse regions, teams could also be goals for FLOCK workshop. Also, in the beginning, we could also give a short idea - 5 mins - on what diversity team has been working on till now.

Here is a brief idea, impact, outcomes for Fedora Women workshop https://etherpad.gnome.org/p/flock-bee-jona

I have submitted diversity team session and sent mail to robyduck, sumantro, Jona, Justin, x3mboy, Paul Fields and Bex to participate in the session.

Diversity Team Session is Accepted.
Our main focus for the session with limited time is ->
1. To collaborate with rest of the fedora projects like Ambassdors
2. To define a flow for the event execution (diversity events)

@amsharma sounds good :)

Do we also define ways in which we can possibly collaborate with different projects?

yeah, sub-part of our session :)

here are to do for diversity session before flock -
These are the tasks to be done before flock for this workshop-
1. Create wiki pages and pagure tickets of all the events. - We already have
for few.
2. Add the existing events to Diversity Team Fedocal.
3. Create Formats and flow of the events.

Any takers, helpers are most welcome. Please comment here if any one would like to help in above work items. @jonatoni @x3mboy @jflory7 @chhavi or anyone? I can help and assist with the tasks.
Thanks.

@amsharma Will be happy to help. Let me know what I can do, probably in the meeting today! :)

Can someone post which Diversity team sessions have been accepted at FLOCK?

  1. Create wiki pages and pagure tickets of all the events. - We already have for few.

@amsharma What other events do we have on the horizon that we would like to support, other than Fedora Women Day? From @tatica's comment in #11 (see here), it looks like the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on December 3rd, 2017. I think there is a good buffer of time to plan out an event like we did with LGBTQ Awareness Day. I see us realistically being able to execute this and it would be beneficial to spend time together at Flock to cover it too.

For me personally, however, I think Fedora Women Day and a International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be enough for us to manage at Flock. What do you all think about this?

  1. Add the existing events to Diversity Team Fedocal.

Does this only include Fedora Women Day as of now? What other existing events are there?

  1. Create Formats and flow of the events.

For this, do you mean a common structure for us to follow for event planning and organizing? Given @bex's feedback about budget planning for Fedora Women Day (see here), I see high value in us having a rough outline in place for Fedora Women Day, and trying to improve on this for Flock to streamline it for later events.

Can someone post which Diversity team sessions have been accepted at FLOCK?

@bee2502 As of now, the only accepted session I am aware of is, "Diversity Team Hackfest".

I have added the the events from ticket #11 to Fedocal.

@jflory7 I think we can have FWD, LGBTQA, FAD for team, International Day of Persons with Disabilities
This is not just for this year. It will be templates which we can use every year.

All events which we gonna support every year as diversity team.

Create Formats and flow of the events.

I agree with you. +1
But we can discuss about other events as well, which we want to support and how we will go about them. which way they will be most fruitful and more.

that is right, Thanks.

I believe these should also get added to the event calendar LATAM is trying to globalize.

This is not just for this year. It will be templates which we can use every year.

I like annual planning, however, I discourage a FAD from being in the annual plan. As a council member I would like to know why this group needs an annual FAD when most groups do not.

@bex these events are just in suggestions and needs more discussion/feedback which will going to happen in Flock Diversity Session (Which events diversity would like to focus, how to organize them in efficient manner, how to handle budget requests etc etc and more). You are most welcome to join diversity session as council member to enlighten us. Thanks.

@jflory7 @jonatoni @chavvi I am thinking to do a blog post on community blog about our diversity session in Flock, 2017 to make people aware about what we are going to do and who can help by joining. Though, I have sent invites (email) to such folks who can be helpful sometime ago. I think doing a post will be nice. Thoughts?

@amsharma It's a good idea. Though we now have less time, so we will have to get going on the blog asap :)

Be aware that it isn't clear if we will have sufficient bandwidth for everyone to use bluejeans/hangouts/whatever. Therefore you may have to do this over IRC ...

A CommBlog post on our session would be helpful so people know what we're working on. Ideally, writing this would help involve more people with the session instead of it feeling like an exclusively team planning session. Feedback from other contributors who aren't involved in the team would be helpful.

I think this was about the email invites for people who are going to be at Flock and we had asked to attend our session if they would be available. As far as I know, there aren't any current plans to have remote participants / attendees. We could try dialing in @x3mboy if he is available, but that's something we'd have to figure out on-site.

Oh please! I will be glad if I can attend (even by IRC)!

  1. Add the existing events to Diversity Team Fedocal.

As part of the Marketing team, one idea we have is to publicize events, based on the Events calendar on Fedocal, so as part of this initiative, please use this calendar too.

+1 for this. CommBlog is the right place and I think there will be a lot of people interested on it.

This was done successfully, We have reports written for this session. Once all the links collected, I think we should be good to close this one.

@amsharma Do you have a link to any reports or drafts? Is there anything I can do to help with this? I don't have the bandwidth to write an article, but I can help edit and publish.
