#56 Wrong image aspect ratio on smartphone or narrow devices
Closed: Fixed 2 years ago by glb. Opened 2 years ago by sgob.

Browsing on a smartphone or on a narrow browser window results in some wide pictures to be stretched and losing their original aspect ratio.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to an article containing some wide pictures, for instance https://fedoramagazine.org/whats-new-fedora-workstation-39/
2. If you're on a smartphone, you should already see the wrong aspect ratio. Else, use Firefox and emulate a narrow device with Ctrl+Shift+M. In some cases you might narrow the window to see the effect clearly.
3. The pictures have a wrong aspect ratio

Expected behavior:
The image should resize so that its own aspect ratio remains correct. The user can regardless click on it to enlarge or zoom.

I will attach some screenshots from both my smartphone and browser.

Thanks for pointing out the problem. I was able to fix the smaller images (less that 686 pixels wide) by setting the aspect ratio to "original" (they were set to "custom"). However, for the wider images, it seems that WordPress will not let me set them to "original" aspect ratio. Sorry, I think this is something to do with the WordPress code. I tried reducing the image resolution, but for that shot of the calendar, it blurred the image badly. It is probably better that it be broken on just a few platforms than on all of them.

Thank you for your reply. I understand the reasoning and I think it is okay to leave it as it is now. Feel free to close the issue.
