The article format used seems to lack the initial date of publication

As such it is difficult to determine if a article is 'recent'
Additionally, as a article may be update after its initial publication, if possible, it may make sense to ALSO add a 'last revised' date when the initial date and any revision differs
There's no way to show this in WordPress as-is, but there are plugins available such as this one. Currently you should be seeing the most recent date of publication.
It looks like this was done automagically by one of the WordPress updates somewhere along the line. So I'm going to close this ticket. Feel free to reopen the ticket though if I'm misunderstanding what is being requested.
