#346 re-evaluate atomic working group meeting time
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by dustymabe.

I received a comment from @eslobodo and @ttomecek saying that the current meeting time is bad for them but they would like to attend. While meeting times are hard since we are trying to accommodate a lot of different schedules, let's attempt to find a time earlier in the day that can work for everyone. Some things to note:

  • we have contributors that span from india as well as the west coast US. It is hard to find a time that works for everyone but we can try to find a time where most can attend (though not at an ideal time for them).
  • our meeting does not move with daylight savings. This is is useful because most countries do not observe daylight savings. We stick to a single UTC time year round.

I have created a doodle for us to vote on times that work best for us https://doodle.com/poll/asf23abkh666k6r7. The doodle should allow you to select your time zone. The doodle was created for mid november so it should be after any daylight savings time changes have happened.

Um, that last is incorrect, most countries do observe daylight savings. In fact, the only country we care about that doesn't is I think India.

However, countries don't start/stop DST on the same dates:

Back then in env & stacks WG, we actually had 2 different timeslots which we alternated: one eastern-friendly, one western-friendly. Not sure it would make sense to do here too.

maybe we should revisit whether we switch for DST or not

Yeah, did your team span west coast US and India? If we decided to do something like this I would prefer to not have it switch back and forth often, but maybe every 6 months we could switch.

Our team span Japan & Australia, Europe and US. Not sure if we had some members from India.

Do we have any team members in Australia or Japan? Those are the only folks I could see really benefitting from alternating times

Everyone has one more week to vote on times in the doodle.

We discussed in the atomic-wg meeting today.and decided:

  • We'll keep UTC year round.
  • We'll implement the new meeting time in mid November after DST has changed for everyone who lives in a country that observes DST.

Keep these two things in mind when voting in the doodle.

ok it looks like the time that was top voted (with 9 votes) was:

16:30 UTC (11:30 EST / 18:30 CEST / 22:00 IST)

I talked with Giuseppe and Tomas and they said they could probably make this time. I'm interested to hear back from Eliska about this time (she was the only one I couldn't reach before the meeting today). Hoping this time is ok for most.

We will start using this time for the meeting on November 8th.

we had consensus at the meeting today that the proposal in the previous comment is what we'll go with. I'll communicate this out to the world after our next meeting and will update fedocal with the new time.
