#307 NeuroFedora at FOSDEM 2020.
Closed: Fixed by ankursinha. Opened by major.

FOSDEM 2020 is one of the biggest open source conferences in the EU. This year it is being held in Brussels from 1st to 2nd February. This year there is a research-based track as well and we are planning on submitting a talk there.

The deadline for the CfP is 1st December 23:59 CET.

We plan to present and introduce NeuroFedora there, the motivation behind it, use-cases and the newly-made neuro-comps image.

Other than that, we can propose to distribute some NeuroFedora swags (if there are any), like stickers or pens or maybe the brochure.

Target Audience: Students and researchers interested in Neuro-Science.

Submission Requirements:
1. Abstract
2. Session type (Lecture or Lightning Talk)
3. Session length (20-40 min, 10 min for a lightning talk)
4. Expected prior knowledge / intended audience
5. Speaker bio
6. Links to code / slides / material for the talk (optional)
7. Links to previous talks by the speaker

@major: assigning to you, since you're "own" the NeuroFedora part.

As per our discussions, a 20-minute talk would suffice the topic as compared to a 40-minute one.

Flock slides: https://github.com/neurofedora/2019-flock-neurofedora
OSB workshop slides: https://github.com/neurofedora/201909-OSB-neurofedora

CNS abstract: https://github.com/neurofedora/2019CNS-neurofedora-abstract

About the abstract: I feel that it is pretty much inclusive of what the talk should be about. I do not think there is anything to add/change there.

The talk/presentation: As discussed, we might water down the neuroscience part a bit (from the Flock slides) as it would not be required, given that it is a conference on tools and technologies. We would have to add the new bits about the neuro-comps image.

Any other comments/points are welcome.

We'll have to re-write the abstract a bit. We cannot submit identical abstracts to multiple places (self-plagiarism is still plagiarism  ). Could you read it and re-write it in your own words? See how that goes?

Updates:

  • @major submitted the abstract
  • his funding request is here: https://pagure.io/mindshare/issue/166#comment-614163

I will carry some of the stickers and send them to @major when i go home for new year holidays.

I've subscribed to the ticket there @major, but please let us know if you need any help

FOSDEM went great. Successfully pitched NeuroFedora in the Open Research Tools and Tech. devroom.

Here is the video of the talk.

I will be writing a blog soon and will share it here as well. ;D

This is complete now. Closing.
