#105 no explanation of how to build packages for modules
Closed 5 years ago Opened 5 years ago by petersen.

I can't find any documentation here of how to build individual packages that will be included in a module!

Hi Jens, sorry for the late response.

The individual component packages of a module will be built as part of the module, i.e. you don't have to build them yourself but when you kick off a module build, the Module Build Service MBS will build them in Koji as defined in the modulemd file that describes the module. The package side of this is documented here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/fedora-project/subprojects/fesco/en-US/making-modules/adding-new-modules.html

Does this answer your question?

Yes thanks - I worked it out in the meantime, but I feel the documentation could be clearer on this.

A actual concrete step-by-step example (story/blog?) would makes things a lot clearer I feel.

This is on my TODO list for August, probably during or post-Flock. I'll be writing something up for the Fedora Community Blog.

Yeah, that was a great session. I'm still planning to do a proper HOWTO from beginning to end, but things have been very busy of late. That's a good place to point people to in the interim, however.

We've recently updated the docs, especially the parts about defining and building modules. It should answer most of the questions, including the one in this ticket: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/modularity/making-modules/adding-new-modules/#_module_build

@petersen Would that be a good answer?
