#86 Create Community Promotion ads for Stack Exchange
Closed: Stale 11 months ago by jflory7. Opened 5 years ago by mattdm.

The developer Q&A network Stack Exchange runs "community promotion ads" for free. We've done this previously (see 2018, and design ticket).

This year, I'd like to refresh both the designs and the messaging. I'd like ads for at least Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, and the Magazine — but there's room for more too.

This is done per site; we should have these for:

we might also want them for specific things (like NeuroFedora, Astronomy Spin, etc.) on the respective specific Stack Exchange sites.

I believe this should be opened with design.

@bex I can open a ticket with design, but design is going to need words to say. It needs coordination with design, marketing, and the editions themselves.

We need someone to own this driving. Any volunteers?

Is this still on? I want to volunteer myself to help with it.

@x3mboy aiui this is still valid - please post a marketing strategy here so we can get the messaging in place first then let's go to design

Mindshare is reviewing older tickets and we think this is a great idea and something that would be great to have. What it needs is someone to drive it :) we sent it over to the Marketing Team to see if they have an interest. If we don't hear back in a couple weeks we will readdress.

While I think the specific task of promotion ads could be deferred to Marketing, there is an opportunity here to define a process for how Fedora handles sponsorship and engagement, which I believe could be "owned" by Mindshare. Back yonder, Bex asked here for a marketing strategy so messaging could get in place, but there was not much guidance on what this means.

It could also be that I have missed this topic of sponsorships and we could drive future requests through that process should it exist. I'd be curious to know what others think and whether a process for directing Fedora budget to community/event sponsorships makes sense.

Time flies. The need for a process and strategy about sponsorship and engagement is still important, but I agree with @riecatnor's subtle hints that this should be driven in other ways.

I am going to close this as stale.
