Can you please elaborate on what is your presence going to be there?
how will fedora get benefited?

Hi, I am on the email thread with the event organizers. I am not leading this event but I have helped with negotiating a sponsorship. Some extra input and thoughts on this ticket:

Dates and participants

The dates for the event run from 2-9 June, but we requested to participate from 6-8 June since the event organizers identified June 8 as the most important date since students work towards a completed project at the end of the week.

@amsharma helped connect some RH employees in Pune office to participate in the event. Additionally, @devyani7 may also be available for this event, but her availability is not yet determined.

Sponsorship budget

To be explicit, this ticket is an event sponsorship request, somewhat similar to this type of ticket. We are waiting to hear back from event organizers if there are specific sponsorship packages to choose from, but I suggested $500 USD as a sponsorship cost.

Fedora's benefit

This event is a week-long event meant to introduce more students to new technology. The event targets students at less prestigious Indian universities and aims to connect them to more resources to build out their ideas and projects.

One of the core five tracks of the event is a Cloud Computing track. The event organizers aim for this track to be a mix of practical applications of cloud computing in a hackathon-like environment as well as an opportunity to explore and consider careers specifically involving cloud computing. Generally, cloud computing is an important area to Fedora and pairs well with Objectives related to container and container orchestration technology. I see Cloud Computing as an important area for Fedora to do the following:

  1. Offer innovative technology and tools,
  2. Be regarded as a great platform for building Solutions.

While this event does not have an open source focus, I think this is one way Fedora adds to the event and introduce more students into the open source movement and community. So much of the cloud computing stack is already built off of open source software and it is an essential skill to know how to navigate FOSS projects and communities. I see Fedora's role as providing the FOSS angle of these technologies to students building their own projects and also Fedora gaining better visibility and recognition as a great platform to build Solutions on.

Through a sponsorship of the event, I hope we can bring subject-matter expertise to help students learn about cloud computing technology and also promote the Four Foundations of Fedora, especially around the Freedom part of our foundations.

@amsharma can you please help me out understanding if RH Pune can facilitate you fundings?

As much as I like the idea of talking and working with the cloud. I would like to point that Fedora now has Fedora IoT but it will be fully released post Fedora 30 [somewhere in june '19]. I would like to understand if students will be using our cloud images to build something or lets say using Fedora IoT to power up a smart automation .. Something which we can show as consumption of Fedora's imgs/builds by students and build on top. This might need some thoughts, that's what I feel.

We might need some help from Cloud SIGs and other SIGs to make the most out of us an event in case we want to fund for the sponsorship.
@jflory7 let me know your thoughts?

Just to make sure I'm clear here... are you asking for $1000 USD? ($500 USD for sponsorship of the conference, plus $500 USD for travel/accomodations?)

I realized that I will not have bandwidth to accommodate this event anymore. Hence I am closing this request. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
