#54 Cheat Cube translation request
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by bt0dotninja.

Hello g11n team,

The Fedora Cheat Cubes are a user/packager oriented tool for doing the life of the users (in general) and packagers easiest and it was recently updated. I want to request translations in every supported language  .

The details about how to translate it are here: https://pagure.io/fedora-cheat-cubes
And the Zanata URL is here: https://fedora.zanata.org/project/view/fedora-cheat-cubes?dswid=9522

P.D:please Tag this as easyfix and L10n.

P.D': Thanks for your awesome work :heartbeat:

Hi,
after taking a brief look and translating the strings I understood, I have to following comments:

  • In my opinion, https://pagure.io/fedora-cheat-cubes/issues should be resolved before translating the cube.
  • I had a quick look at Zanata and discovered a many strings that are not translatable to my language without context. It would be good if comment would explain how and where command is used. ('change of').
  • Moreover, there are a few strings that don't need translation, such as the octal '755' or URLs such as 'getfedora.org'. May I suggest, not to export them as translatable?
  • What are we supposed to do with abbreviations like 'dest', 'pkg', ...? Abbreviate them?
  • What role does the Fedora_Cheat_Cube_Packagers package in Zanata play? Is it to be translated? I assume packagers require a level of English that enables them to read and understand those instructions in English. Moreover, there are plenty strings that consist of an URLs only. Translation of URL makes no sense.

Hi here,

I'm the main "maintainer " of the cheat cube. Just to clarify some points:

  • Actually, it is only a tool. You cannot translate it only in Zanata, and will need to lookup the cube each time you want to translate it. Inkscape files are not made to be translated...
  • About abbreviations, I don't know if there is a policy. For now, my goal was only to "keep everything" in the cube, even with abbreviations (I have translated it in french, and it is worse than in English).
  • I think Fedora_Cheat_Cube_Packagers deserve a translation. it is a good starting point for newcomer, and English souldn't be a stop sign for them.
  • Other points will be solved soon in the fedora-cheat-cube repo :)
  • I will resume this points in the README, I admit it is not clear at all.

Thank you for your help, and don't hesitate to open an issue or to email me

Note : I helped to make this translation possible=2E

I agree with Alexandre, using Zanata is just a helper to allow cube translation. It doesn't aim to output a perfect localized version of the cube

You'll have to edit it manually, for design and consistency.

To me the cube is already good as is.

I disagree with the idea a packager cube should not be translatable. There is no obligation to do so, each contributor can do whatever he prefer :)

While I understand the enthusiasm to translate this cube and appreciate it, this ticket needs to be a task to fulfil by someone. This package already is in Zanata, in a group and has been advertised in the mailing list.

What's the task you would like to do?

(edit: fix text issues because of mail response)

Where do I find the most recent version of the Cheat Cube (en)?

@bt0dotninja please answer this:

Hi @jibecfed ,

As explained by @nobrakal , the cheat cube not will be fully translated using only Zanata, maybe advertising this on the proper mailing lists counts as task. if this is done maybe we can close this ticket.

Many thanks for your help and sorry for the delay (u know Holidays)

Well, no problem, you're really welcome to do so! No authorization is neede=
d ;)
If you wish, you can share a draft here=2E

I close this bug for now, please feel free to reopen it if any further help is needed (like discussing a draft).
