#792 path changes in output compose artifacts
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by dustymabe.

We have moved some stuff around for f28/rawhide to try to get things to make more sense. Here is a summary:

  • WorkstationOstree is now AtomicWorkstation
  • Atomic is now AtomicHost
  • CloudImages directory goes away
  • Cloud base images go under /Cloud/
  • AtomicHost cloud images go under /AtomicHost/
  • Container images are now under /Container/

Example links to artifacts (for x86_64):

Having this 7 days before Beta release is rather late, you changed almost everything AFAICS. We are a small team and could not be able to make all these changes in time.
Other questions:

  • Container images? Where are they? We don't have them on the websites, and eventually need to explain also how to use them, which has to be translated, and there is no time to do that.
  • Same for AtomicWorkstation

Sorry, if you point me to places to fixup paths I can try to help.

Other questions:

Container images? Where are they? We don't have them on the websites, and eventually need to explain also how to use them, which has to be translated, and there is no time to do that.

For the Container images we basically did a rename s/Docker/Container. So for example the Docker Image (40MB) on the https://getfedora.org/en/atomic/download/ page would need a fixed up link to the Container base image and s/Docker/Container in the text.

Same for AtomicWorkstation

I don't know if we've ever had AtomicWorkstation on the website, so that is net new work. I don't expect that to get done, but figured it would still be good to add into the notification so that if we did have it on the website somewhere we could get it updated.

To be clear, I don't expect AtomicWorkstation on the website for beta, but it would be nice to add this at some point in the future. Should I open a separate ticket for that?

We haven't had AtomicWorkstation on the website. And I think it will need some thought as to how we want it to appear there, so probably best to file a separate ticket.

I agree with @mclasen and want to add another thing here.
You guys know pretty well what you did and why and how to use all the images. Getfedora is not just a website where to list stuff, our target is the end user and we need to explain, even with generic explanations and useful links to docs how to get it working and for what we have it. All this needs to be translated by L10n, so this needs some time.
Same for Docker/Container, I know I was rather absent in the last month, but I never saw an official decision about renaming Docker with Container (but I admit I could have missed it). Do you think end users know that? What about telling them this on the website? Just because there might be some users looking for Docker still....
Sorry for pointing this out, but I got a bit lost with all these news.

@dustymabe
1) You are very welcome to help with fixing paths
2) What about Docker ==> Container instructions? How will they change?
3) Would AtomicWorkstation have its own AMI IDs? (Pardon if this is a stupid question)

Thanks for your help and inputs.

@mclasen - can you open a ticket for this?

This happened in releng (PR here). I actually didn't make the change, but I do think it was the right change to make mostly because the company is enforcing trademark now and we want to also let people know that the containers we put out aren't tied to a runtime. They are OCI container images.

Sorry for pointing this out, but I got a bit lost with all these news.

+1

2) What about Docker ==> Container instructions? How will they change?

The instructions should all be the same. This is a name change only.. For the most part it should be s/Docker/Container. I'll be happy to review anything to make sure it looks good. This should not need any translation changes.

3) Would AtomicWorkstation have its own AMI IDs? (Pardon if this is a stupid question)

Nope. It just has an ISO image for now. It's not a dumb question

Thanks for your help and inputs.

Thank you. Sorry for not talking to you sooner. One thing we need to do is to hook releng more into notifying websites for changes like this. I'm not actually part of releng, but I have been proposing a lot of changes to make things better, so I'm responsible for a lot of the changes. Hopefully I haven't thrown too much of a wrench into things.

@mclasen - can you open a ticket for this?

I'll do so once I got some guidance from a few people on how to present it.
For now, I have this faw SIG ticket for it: https://pagure.io/fedora-atomic-workstation/issue/13

Ok adding this to the TODO list for Beta, except the AtomicWorkstation thing which needs more inputs from SIG side.

@sinnykumari from the atomic side has volunteered to pick this one up (assuming someone else hasn't already). We started a conversation with @robyduck in #fedora-websites to collaborate.

@robyduck Two things that I noticed here

  1. Do we want to advertise/publish about Modular variant on our websites? (Its just a repo enabled only for Server)
  2. aarch64 for some variants is primary and for some its alternate (https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Changes/AArch64_Server_Promotion)
2.1 aarch64 for Everything Server Cloud Container is primary
2.2 aarch64 for AtomicHost Labs Spins Workstation is alternative

Also, I updated my staging script and the commits list for that PR will help you as well

https://pagure.io/releng/pull-request/7415#commit_list

Thank you @mohanboddu , much appreciated ;)

I changed the Docker paths to Container, while all the rest will be changed for final release.
@sinnykumari please be careful when you replace it, because we need to keep Docker for all F27 images and checksums, also the brochure pages have to mention still Docker. We will change them for final, not for Beta.

Thanks @robyduck , I will keep this in mind while working on PR.

Ok, Fedora 28 Beta has been released, to avoid confusion I am going to close this.
We will open specific issues for F28 GA about AtomicWorkstation, Docker -> Container and some other stuff planned for final release.
