When someone shares https://getfedora.org/ on Facebook, the image selected happens to be the "features" logo. See Facebook's "Sharing Debugger" for details.
We should set (at least) the "og:image" property. See http://ogp.me/ for documentation on how to set this. This could point to either the Fedora logo, or, perhaps better, an image specifically designed to be a "one card" representation of Get Fedora. The image should ideally be 1200×630. (I suppose a separate design team ticket should be filed for this.
We should probably also do the same for Twitter, with "Twitter Cards". https://dev.twitter.com/cards/overview

Here's a 1200x630 px one; I designed it so if it's square cropped from the center the logo still looks okay and isn't cropped and has breathing room:

What do you think about using the space as a sort of banner ad, with more information than just the logo? Too tacky?

IMHO, the just the logo is a good choice here. @mattdm any thoughts on what we would put in a more addy version of this?
A big issue i see is that anything we do isgoing to be cropped and chopped, so the more content we put in it, the harder is it going to be to get it working everywhere.
That aside, i'm going to do the work on the websites side of things to get it working with @duffy 's image. We can always change it in the future if we want, too.

A more "addy" version would include some active words, like "Get" or "Download". Or, I guess the "Choose Freedom. Choose Fedora." tag from the site.
I guess we'd probably want somtehing specific if the Server/Atomic/Workstation (or various spin) pages are shared, too.

FWIW I'm also for the clean image, without adding anything, but if we have a good idea, we can always change the image.
