#521 New website for Spins
Closed: Fixed None Opened 9 years ago by robyduck.

After getfedora.org and focusing mostly on the three editions of fedora.next it's time to make another step forward and give Spins, ARM and Docker a nice place where to live. Actually all images, prerelease and other informations are on https://spins.fedoraproject.org but it's really confusing because this website was not build to host more and different images than spins.

I've just created the spins-redesign branch and my thought is to write a bootstrap and mobile friendly website where all images should have their own space. Further, this website needs to be different from getfedora.org, but this doesn't mean it should be aweful ;)

We still need to decide the subdomain for this page, as spins.fpo doesn't fit the content anymore. This can be changed also later, in the meanwhile I'll call it labs.fedoraproject.org.

Other thoughts:
Header and footer could be almost the same as on getfedora.org
ULS will be the same as getfedora.org
One landing page where people can have an overview of what this website provides
Spins will lead to a page, similar to what we have now on spins.fpo, where we could separate Desktop Spins from other Spins
Ever single Spin should have it's own Download/feature/screenshots page, a sort of dedicated spins page where people can get all they are looking for
ARM can go directly to the download page, as there is not much to say (unless ARM folks want to have this in a different way)
* Docker will have just one download page

We need to work together with all Spins SIGs and need new screenshots and features for every single spin. We can probably reuse the images we have already on spins.fpo, but for other icons or banners we need new design.

Same for ARM, we need their opinion and must understand what ARM folks need on the pages, same as for Docker (Cloud).

It's a huge task and have this website running fine for F22 GA is a great challenge, so I hope we can all work on it together to split the workload and go on faster :)

Thanks Robert for all the efforts that you're putting in this new challenge.

About the new domain, since my point of view, labs.fedoraproject.org/name* should be okey so far =). e.g if we have fedora electronic lab, the new websites point out to this section should be labs.fedoraproject.org/fel.

I think that we need to update almost all the images of the spins and update the content.

About the sections that we're gonna have, I propose:

Get started (as the actual home page)
About ----
Documentation (as the actual portfolio)
Resources (as the actual publications)
Testimonials
Download
Support

These are almost the same sections but with different names. On the other hand, using ZURB Foundation to create our responsive design sounds a good options. Additionality, using some kind of pastel color scheme maybe be attractive =).

The Robert's idea about ARM and Docker sounds good for me.

Coming soon I'll add new ideas about how we can show the content.

Best regards!

We have 2 pages for spins.fpo in the spins-redesign branch, one is the main index and the other is a spin details page, a sort of template we can use for the other spins too. I made it for KDE, some minor things have to be fixed and also the applications are not 100% right, but anyway.

Next step is to hear '''all''' Spin SIGs and sync with them about the content they want to have there.

Download page is coming (cydrobolt) and we can then decide how to make the checksum stuff working (direct links vs. script as in getfedora). We should not have many other pages to code, which makes me confident to have both, spins.fpo and labs.fpo, working for F22 GA release date.

Branch F22 has been created and all the work we did for spins-redesign merged into it. Spins.fpo is the website which is quite in good state right now, we are still missing some features (SoaS and LXDE) but the rest is working fine, download pages and splash included.

When updating the POT we need first to freeze translations in order to not break spoins.fpo in production.

http://spins.stg.fedoraproject.org is almost complete, except for SoaS. All the other spins are done and should work fine.
add a new SoaS screenshot (actually the resolution is not 1920x1080)
add SoaS features
add download links
add checksums
i18n, there are probably many strings without genshi markup
footer (add new websites and ensure it works on mobile)
* testing testing...it's all new from scratch.

Another thing we need to add to all download pages is the export regulations disclaimer, adding it here as a TBD task to not forget about it.

So SoaS is up and running too, we are almost done. Still need:
Download links
footer update
checksums
Export regulations (we decided to use a modal popup)

Mobile view now also is without fade in/out for a more comfortable user experience.

Just waiting for GOLD RC :)
footer update (see ticket #325)
checksums
* export regulations

Seems we are odone here:
* add checksums

Checksums added, just need testing here. All ready.

Fedora 22 has been released today, all fine and running now.
