#436 drop unmaintained dynamic content from www.fp.o
Closed: Invalid None Opened 10 years ago by mattdm.

The front page of http://fedoraproject.org/ was clearly intended for constantly-updated posts and dynamic content. This did not, for whatever reasons, happen. The content that is there very well done, but is also woefully, depressingly old. (The user profiles are good even though dated, but many of the tutorials are dead links, or apply to old versions of packaged software.)

I suggest that we do one of

A) cut the entire "Fedora Highlights" section and instead link to the new Fedora Magazine

or

B) replace the existing data with data fed from http://fedoramagazine.org/feed

Hi Matt, \
I fully agree with your basic thought about having on our main page a very very old content which has become annoying in all these years (yes years!).\
Nevertheless I'm not sure we should place a feed on that page, because we need to:
translate at least the posts on our main page
We should keep the "What makes Fedora different?" post somewhere (also on another page)
* Main page should not be a duplicate of the planet or the start.fpo page

I'd like to have something "in the middle", some selected posts we keep on fpo for some months for example. Translators would have time to translate them and we don't take the risk to have duplicated less important posts you can read also on the planet or somewhere else (the magazine itself for example).

Further I'd propose to use the newsbar more often, for major news obviously, but it's nice having actual content there. Thanks for bringing this up, let's deepen this discussion a bit more.

I agree also, we have an old ticket for that. Even more tickets:

#99, #127, #164

I've asked many times from marketing to have more content. I had few answers, last time I was hoping to have it done at Flock, but since I was not there it gets forgotten.
Therefore, I would say it's too late to update the content.
I am +1 to drop it and replace by something else. If people want them back, they will come back to help.

Fedora Magazine is more about contributors than simple users. But it can help to move users on the contributor side.
I would prefer to have a selection, each months? of some articles to publish. What do you think?

The several-month cycle sounds great if we can make sure there's someone to drive it.

Or maybe we just need to make a badge for it and sit back. :)

getfedora.org is in place, we will have other sources for dynamic content.
