#427 get-prerelease.html should be redirected when no pre-release is available
Closed: Fixed None Opened 10 years ago by kparal.

Currently, F19 is stable and F20 hasn't yet even been branched. That means no pre-release is available. But this page:

http://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease.html

suggests it is. However, all the links are invalid and results in 404 pages.

Please redirect /get-prerelease.html to get.fp.o when no pre-release is available. These links might be present on many websites and we should offer those visitors something better than 404 pages. Thanks.

The link you mention is nowhere available on fedoraproject.org sites, and we already have a redirect from http://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease to http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora

We don't use the html extension anywhere, therefore there shouldn't exist any links around.

If you put "fedora pre-release" into Google, you'll get the .html link (third result in my case). That's how I've found the link in the first place. I think that link is quite too visible to just disregard it easily.

Or should we rather try to convince Google to replace the current .html link with something else? And how?

Yes let's ask Google :)

Ok then let's add also the html extension, thanks.

robyduck will ask nirik to add the .html to the redirect. reopening.

We added the html extension to the redirect, puppet:12727a9

Seems to work well. Thanks.
