#366 live media is now not (always) CD
Closed: Fixed None Opened 11 years ago by kevin.

on http://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease (and possibly other places) for f18, there is:

"Fedora Desktop Live Media
BitTorrent
i686 - Live CD
x86_64 - Live CD"

In f18 some of the spins (kde and desktop in particular) are no longer targeting CD.

We should change this to "1GB Live media" or "live image" or "DVD live"...

Hell, you're right I forgot that. I think we should handle it as most generic as possible, like:

i686 - live image (or live ISO) \
x86_64 - live image

We should not specify if the image is for CD ord DVD, as in most cases people will use probably a USB stick.

We have to remember to do the same changes on the final release pages for F18, in get-fedora-options.fp.o.

Ok, I think that is fixed now:

commit ae3bf78 for pre-release live images on beta branch\
commit ffa5f39 for final release live images on master branch

Did I forget any CD Iso?

well, LXDE, Xfce, SoAS and Security are still targeting 700MB cd's...

I guess we could call them just ISO image too, but then people don't know that they can fit on CD media...
or is there somewhere else we could indicate that?

Yep that's right, but how many people will use a CD or DVD for a live image? In most cases they will use a USB Stick, and on netbooks they don't even have a CD/DVD drive.\
If you are unhappy with this solution we could think about specifying this on the download page. Just to say that images may fit in some cases also on a CD. If I remember right we mention the media on the right under 'Requirements'.

This is a step in the right direction, thanks.
I (nor most I know) haven't used optical media for years.

Here is an older patch of mine to indicate you can write the image to USB
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/websites/attachments/20120530/220d3940/attachment.ksh

We changed it with "live image" if the image doesn't fit on a CD and added also the USB Key as destination to write the ISO. The ticket has been fixed during the merge to F18 GA.
