#8159 Update package descriptions with their summaries.
Opened 2 months ago by major. Modified a month ago

Hello there.

I come from NeuroFedora SIG, and this ticket is in reference to this issue.

In short, we would like to update all of the package descriptions with the summaries present in their spec files. A list of the packages which need to be updated is present here.

Source directory of the RPMs is: https://src.fedoraproject.org/group/neuro-sig

Thanks @major!

Note that this issue isn't limited to neuro-sig packages. Lots of packages in src.fp.o show "The $packagename RPMS" as their summaries. If at possible, and hopefully scriptable, it'll be nice to have src.fp.o pick up summaries from the specs too---I think it does this for descriptions already, but I don't see it working for all packages---maybe it does this for new ones?

(We can't update all our packages manually because while the team has commit access to them all, we do not have the required admin access).

Yes, this should be done for all rpms.

I don't think we currently have anything updating this (but I could be wrong).

@pingou should this be a pagure-dist-git issue? I would guess we could script something using mdapi?

We don't indeed :)

pagure-dist-git would be a reasonable place to put/ship the script and yes we should use mdapi as a source of information :)

@pingou if you point me to some example of deployed script i can help writing it.

There are a few scripts in https://pagure.io/pagure-dist-git/blob/master/f/scripts though they aren't deployed.

One advantage of putting the script in pagure-dist-git is that the package is installed on the server, so we can just import pagure and all its related code, including pagure.lib.query :)
