Hello team,
Since Outreachy is near I'm opening the ticket to approve the budget about it. @labbott will start rounding up projects and mentors, and I would like to allocate budget for three interns for this round (Spring) and push for three good projects.
PS: If we have only two projects/mentors and we get two interns in the Spring, means that the budget for the other intern will be used in the Fall.
What do you all think? Would be good to approve the ticket asap so @bex can continue with the payment.
@jonatoni this is a good approach, let's make sure that these projects get some light - some nice articles in magazine and presentations in flock. thanks.
+1 to allocating remaining budget of 14,924 USD from FY 19 for Outreachy internships.
However, this will not be enough to support three interns - but given the value Outreachy interns bring to the project, I am +1 to supporting 3 interns if we can get the remaining budget from somewhere else.
Looking forward to having some great interns and projects :)
+1 to allocate funding for Outreachy from FY19 D&I budget.
Thanks @amsharma @bee2502 @jflory7 for voting budget #approved - looking forward to having new interns joining Outreachy this year :)
I will leave the ticket still open, as e remainder to:

Sorry for the ignorance. Do we have articles published?
@amsharma No, we did not publish an article to promote the internships but we can definitely do one to interview accepted interns in May. For the fedora-happiness-packets project, we had too many applicants anyways so it's okay.
@sgallagh How are things going with libmoduled? Do you have strong applicants or do you want more visibility for your Outreachy project?

@jflory7 I have several strong applicants and I am in fact planning to close the applications early so as not to be overwhelmed.
@sgallagh Super. Then we can hold off until interns are selected and we can an interview like we did in 2017.
@jflory7 thanks for sharing the update, any timelines we can suggest when these interviews can be done, Thanks,
Per the current Outreachy timeline, accepted interns are announced on May 6, 2019.
Thanks @jflory7 , we will revisit this after May 6 then.
@jflory7 ping :) do we have some new info here ?
@amsharma https://www.outreachy.org/alums/
cool, so we have 3 Fedora interns. Let's plan for their interview. If someone has bandwidth to do it, then it is fine, else I can take a lead here.
I can circle back after 31st May. Anyone interested to pick this up before that @jonatoni @bee2502 @jflory7 ?
It might be worth coordinating these interviews with @sumantrom and the GSoC students. This way we can show the interns all being treated as equal from a technical perspective while emphasizing the diversity aspect where appropriate.
Sure, we will do that once we start working on it, Thanks for the inputs.
If we just want to interview the interns, I would suggest we create a template questionnaire which interns can reply to via Google forms. But I would prefer this happen after a few weeks in the internship i.e June
I also think it would be nice if we schedule a call with selected interns during the first few weeks of their intern - to talk about their experience in Fedora and so that interns can interact with each other.

I agree with your idea of collecting interview responses via a form. I created this Google Form to use as a survey for accepted students. I can work on distributing it to accepting students, but I'd like a quick review first for completeness.

This is a cool idea. A lot of internship programs at physical offices have intern social events. I like this as a way to better connect the remote Summer Coding community together.
Only one small change - can you add /GSoC where you have written Outreachy? Since we are doing it for both. Otherwise it is great :)

Oops, I copy+pasted some of the questions. Fixed now. Thanks for catching.

@jflory7 , Thanks for working on it. It was quick.
Few comments for the google form -
Congratulations on your selection into a Fedora Summer Coding 2019 program! We are looking forward to having you in the Fedora community over the summer. -> Can we change the wording a bit so that it does not say "just over the summer" or during the internship. Infact once the part of Fedora, they can always continue their contribution. ?
Since we can't all stand in the same room together, the Fedora Community Operations team and Summer Coding admins conduct interviews to introduce interns to the Fedora community. -> Can you mention Diversity team here? Since we started this effort here?
Please fill the interview survey as soon as possible. We look forward to working with you! -> Mentioning a tentative date always help.
Questions list look great. I particularly liked "Marvel one" It is indeed very important to ask.
HTH!
For "This is a cool idea. A lot of internship programs at physical offices have intern social events. I like this as a way to better connect the remote Summer Coding community together. " +1
@amsharma Thanks, I got all of your feedback! I'm going to distribute this out now.
Nice, thank you @jflory7 :)
