This is a step towards building guidelines and resources to build a diverse and inclusive community as mentioned in #20. We want to create individual and team-focused "tutorials" so everyone in Fedora community can feel included and knows best practises for inclusive communication within community. Here are some ideas for classrooms -
More classroom ideas can be drawn from these articles: https://fedoramagazine.org/share-fedora-difficult-conversations/ https://fedoramagazine.org/share-fedora-existing-community/ https://fedoramagazine.org/share-fedora-encouraging-new-contributors/
Ideally, these resources are made available even beyond the workshop. We can host them on f.p.o or docs. I think each guideline should be supported by a classroom session and vica versa.
P.S. If we are able to track the number of people using these resources over time, we might be able to get a better perspective on the areas we need to focus on.
@x3mboy Your thoughts? What do we need to conduct a Fedora classroom session?

Great initiative, thanks for opening this. We can add something about CoC and make sure to spread the awareness.
@amsharma I am not sure about doing a CoC related classroom at the moment.
It would be great if we can focus on ideas related to FLOCK like 3rd and 5th one sooner than later i.e. 3. How to create a good funding proposal for FLOCK (with an aim to encourage diverse applicant pool) 5. Tips for first time speakers/ Why you should consider speaking at conferences etc.

I think including CoC like where it is for reference and where to report the violation etc are very basic points which should be included for every new contributor, if not more.

For that we need to in sync with what is published by @mattdm recently on flock-planning list and keep our self updated about it.
Tips for first time speakers/ Why you should consider speaking at conferences etc.
I am not opposed to presenting our CoC, but a) I believe we should be able to talk about D&I and this group without having our message based on the CoC. The CoC is critical but is a document. Let's actually talk about actions we are taking and how to become involved. It is a classroom, not a lecture hall. b) I believe that since we are going through a protracted process of reworking our CoC and the reporting process, let's not create durable materials that are going to be out of date or result in potentially sub-optimal responses.
Metadata Update from @bee2502: - Issue tagged with: 2018 GOAL
This is one of our primary goals for 2018! Let's aim to create atleast one classroom session every 6 weeks. Additionally, we can also share resources through our docs repo.
It would be great if we can brainstorm some ideas for our first classroom during the upcoming meeting.
Skipped for 2018-04-06 meeting.
We ran out of time to cover this ticket in today's meeting. We can revisit at next meeting.
Metadata Update from @bee2502: - Issue untagged with: meeting
To follow-up, I think we agreed to postpone this task until after Flock 2018, so we will revisit this later in 2018. We may be able to include this ticket as part of a workshop or planning session at Flock, since we can take advantage of other people who may be interested in helping us there.
I'm updating the priority and milestone for this ticket to reflect this.

We missed a ping from @ankursinha on #fedora-women - <FranciscoD> Hello, I'm trying to set up a short survey for folks that attend Fedora classroom sessions. Could you folks please have a look at this and make any suggestions when you have a minute? <FranciscoD> https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Fedora-Join/issue/57 <FranciscoD> I haven't included any questions that require private information, but maybe we could gather some data to see what the mix of participants is? <FranciscoD> jonatoni meskarune Aziza Amita ^
I think it will nice to leave some comments in https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Fedora-Join/issue/57 Thanks!

@amsharma There was also a discussion on this in CommOps channel where @jonatoni and I left feedback. We pointed @ankursinha towards Fedora community survey draft and suggested that the common questions be streamlined (same text, options) to better evaluate the results: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Diversity/Survey
There will be some questions which are relevant from Diversity and Inclusion point of view i.e. gender, timezone of attendees, level of expertise in open source and Fedora etc. @ankursinha will share the results with us when he has then.
@ankursinha ++ for the idea and :100: work!

Sessions about D&I would be absolutely brilliant! All you need to do is get in touch with the Classroom wranglers and we'll help set the session up :)
CC'ing them here so that they're kept in the loop: @skamath @siddharthvipul1 @coremodule

I wanted to suggest having a class on accessibility in Fedora. We could talk with blind and deaf Fedora users to see how they use Fedora. The class could talk about accessibility tools available in the OS as well as ways to make things like information resources and media more accessible. There are a lot of different ways you can go with covering accessibility.

@ankursinha Do you have results from this survey?
@meskarune If you are you still interested in organizing this class, let's discuss more about it!

Looks like this Classroom is not held but it sounds like a Great Idea to have a Classroom for, It would be great if someone from D&I can take it.
Classroom
CC: @jflory7
In retrospect, a "classroom" might be a better fit for a virtual Flock session. Maybe we can combine this ticket into Flock 2020 planning. For now, I do not have enough time to drive this though.
Sounds Good, It would be great if we can perform this session, Adding it Flock 2020 Planning, sounds like a Good Idea. Can we have someone else from the D&I Team who can take this session ?
+1 on this.
I can helpout with this.
Sounds awesome, We at Join SiG are trying to maximize our efforts to have Classrooms, @pac23 would you be interested in taking the Classroom Session ?
sure,i am the same handle on irc/telegram if you want to get in touch/discuss in detail.
Awesome, Let's continue the discussion on #fedora-join in IRC
@pac23 It would be awesome to have your help with this! :raised_hands: Maybe we could start with a rough draft agenda in this ticket for what the Classroom would cover?
@jflory7 sounds awesome :D
@jflory7 @nasirhm so maybe we should cover the accessibility topic first .
Some things that we could cover are - Screen Readers - SLD friendly fonts(specific fonts that make reading easy) and spell check tools - Screen Magnifiers
How to install these tools and use them
We should also cover virtual terminals and braille displays(i personally dont know much about them) so anyone who does know about this is more than welcome to participate.

@pac23 for Braile Displays, I would suggest to find someone in the Community who have experience with working on it.
@pac23 any updates? I feel the author of this article might be able to help you or suggest someone who can: https://opensource.com/life/15/5/accessibility-linux
i don't have the bandwidth for this, kindly assign this to someone else.
Thanks for your reply @pac23 :) I will close this ticket since we don't have the time to work on this now - but we can revisit it in the future
