#59 Funding request for FW stickers
Closed: Complete 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by rhea.

I'm going to three events in April:

  • Talking at OpenSchool - Red Hat organized event targeting high school students (and therefor a lot of girls)
  • Talking at OpenHouse - Red Hat organized event targeting university students and professionals
  • Code girls - Local event for high school girls where some other RedHatters participate, it's about talking to girls about our experiences, showing them our work, etc...

Further my near-future activities will include:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly worshops for high school students (aiming to catch the interest of the girls without positive discrimination)
  • Local meetup or two during summer
  • Start an organization similar to pyladies

I'm asking RH for 500 RH stickers for 2018 events, these three included and possibly others later... so an equal number of Fedora Women stickers would be cool.

If approved, this would be ordered together with other stickers that I'm asking for elsewhere (ambassadors, etc...) and probably paid by Brian directly to avoid the hassle of refunds.

@rhea please send me the spec files for the printer so I can configure this for rapid printing if this ticket is approved.

@bex You have them, I don't. Smol FW circles you've printed a few times before. (If you already have a lot of them stashed that's cool too.)

@rhea I have a few questions -
1. How much budget do you need for printing these stickers?
2. What topic will you be speaking on at these three events?
3. Are there any other talks/ presentations/ discussions on Fedora at this event?

You're right. I meant the pattern for the Fedora .NET hexes and updated the wrong ticket. But since I am here :D please send me that.

I think we should have answers to these questions before +1

1) 150ish usd, i don't know exactly.
2) irrelevant as these are stickers for a 3 quarters and not just these events. I know nothing about the third event at all and i described the other two - where I'm taking about cs in fedora (as usual)
3) no clue at all (I don't know the answers because i don't have the time to care about stuff not directly relevant to me)

Further I'll be teaching at high school cs aiming to catch some girls (without positive discrimination)

Given your answer to #2, @rhea it sounds like this team should decide if it wants to print some stickers to have in "stock" and then can distribute them when events that are appropriate come up.

I had read your request as saying you had a definitive need for 500 stickers not that you were trying to get the team to print a stock that could be drawn from. I understand it better now.

@bex it's kinda both, these are the three events happening next month, where two are just random events i happen to talk at, and the third one is very much "on topic." I'm asking for 500 because it's high enough to last much longer than these three events, realistically I don't expect more than 150 to disappear next month.

So to sum it up, I'm asking for 500 stickers (of each to me relevant kind - FW, F-hex, F-dotnet, RH-dotnet) which I'll use up at the above three events + whatever else will come up this year (BuildStuff.lt is one that might "come up," I would like to also organize dotnet meetup in brno and I plan to teach high school students C# as well - choosing high schools over tech universities because of better women ratio...)

Either way, let's keep these stickers in our main swag inventory and draw them out as needed. This way they can be easily repurposed without having to manage multiple "warehouses" of inventory. This is also good because we can replenish as we go so if we use some before later events, we can easily order more and not have an event that goes without. Lastly, you indicate you don't actually think you'll need all 500 for the three events.

I am +1 to this. However, I think we should have a larger batch of stickers printed initially since we also have OSCAL(where there is a high number of female attendees), FLOCK and FWD in next few months.

Also, we need to confirm that these stickers are present in swag inventory of all regions so that ambassadors can request them.

I suggest this get timeboxed so that we don't block waiting on information. Perhaps @rhea could update her estimates so we know how much slack she built into the request.

Also, we need to confirm that these stickers are present in swag inventory of all regions so that ambassadors can request them.

Even though we only store swag in two locations, they are available to be shipped world wide. This is resolved.

Minus one to so many comments above.

Please do not confuse my request for stickers with anything else happening in EMEA, Brian can stock these up if he wants to but it would have nothing to do with me, and me nothing to do with it, just like me won't have anything to do with oscal, and oscal with me, and most likely the same with flock or other events full of other Fedora contributors.

Also minus one to me having to request stickers per-event or in any other smaller way than the 500 requested due to the amount of issues and overhead all this comes with, from requests and approvals, through printing, to receiving packages or picking it up somewhere that is not my own drawer. I do not see a single benefit in doing that, other than hurting me, and causing much more work for me and possibly a few other people. 500 is very reasonably low value that I'm asking for (I intended to ask for much more than that for the whole year!) and with all that I will in very near future, I am in doubt that it will last through summer.

This is also good because we can replenish as we go so if we use some before later events, we can easily order more and not have an event that goes without.

You can manage a stickerhouse as you wish, as long as I can get my 500 out of it, and then top up my 500 when I get low/run out.

Lastly, you indicate you don't actually think you'll need all 500 for the three events.

I need that buffer, I'm not clairvoyant. 500 is very low value, I was being very reasonable with it. In my wildest dreams I have my hopes up that it will last long, but those will be only hopes if I do get all the other major activities going. I know that I won't be able to do much with these specific stickers at the two red hat events, but I know nothing about the third event yet, i don't'know whether it will be 30 people or 3000 people there. I don't know.

@amsharma can you update this tickets with the results of the meeting?

IN the meeting. most of the people are agreed to -
1. Allocate 150 stickers to Rhea for her events this quarter. She should write blog posts and report back on them results.
2. Let's print 500 in total, but anyone who need these stickers should create a request (one request per event) in order to get them and the number of stickers should be justified in the request. We can not just give away stickers on assumption basis. They can be collected as per the need and based on clear requirements.

I am +1 for the above, I request everyone to please vote and share your advise here on this ticket. Thanks.

This point is irrelevant in this ticket. This is not a warehouse request, please discuss sticker-warehousing somewhere else so it can be looked up and discussed appropriately.

Further I would like to point out that you should read the original post where I "justified" this request as you say. 150 stickers won't be enough for these three events, yet to account for further activities mentioned.

On another thought, since I'm getting only 150, I'll leave it up to Bex to supply OpenHouse and OpenSchool with the stickers from the warehouse, and I'll care only about my presentation. Yup, this way the 150 will work out juuuuust fine.

150 stickers were set for delivery to @rhea today. She should get them before her talk today. @rhea can you update this ticket when you have them so we can close?

I forgot to mention that the other 350 stickers were printed and are in the budget now.

@bex Thanks for the update! Can you also add the cost of these stickers in the ticket? and which budget did we use to fund these - FY 18 or FY 19?

@rhea has received them and when y'all happy this can be closed - me is happy.

The balance are stored for use as needed.

Closing.
