#5 Creating "example cases" for plans of action
Closed: Invalid 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by jflory7.

Discussed in 2016-08-09 meeting.

The gist

Having "example cases" of potential Code of Conduct violation cases would be helpful in knowing how to handle certain situations and how to deal with them if they arise in the future.

Background

This is more of a preventative action to help us in terms of planning ahead for situations that might arise in the future and how we should handle them. Whether it's a type of behavior or action, having these as examples for future situations will help us act consistently and fairly. It can sometimes be tough to come up with these things when there's added stress and context from things happening immediately.

One of the questions @tatica had in this was how far exactly the Diversity Team / Diversity Adviser would have reach into cases dealing with Code of Conduct violations (from the parts of the discussion I missed in today's meeting). This might be something @mattdm could advise on specifically so we could formulate mock situations based on what we / tatica would be expected to handle. @meskarune also offered to add in some of her own experiences and thoughts on this based on Arch Linux Women and Ubuntu Women communities.

Implementation

  1. Identify examples of CoC violations
  2. Abstract them into general, template-like formats (?)
  3. Determine the root problem and what an appropriate response looks like
  4. ???

I'm not as definite on this one, so definitely open to feedback and thoughts on what implementing this would look like.

Jared Smith told me that he has initiated something similar back when he was FPL and Toshio was in the team.

May be we can use some of those guidelines already in place.

I just created a simple wiki-page to start. I will add some specific cases during the rest of the week so we have something to discuss and take as start for next meeting.

In their recent FAD, Council agreed that they will be taking this issue forward with an emphasis on an open and transparent process related to the Code of Conduct. Hence, I am closing this ticket for now. The links to email thread and Community Blog Post related to this announcement from Council :
