#48 Diversity Team Goals - From Jan, 2018 to Jan, 2019
Closed: Complete 6 years ago Opened 7 years ago by amsharma.

As we are approaching to another New Year on this planet earth. It will be another great year for Fedora diversity team. We have achieved what we planned almost for the last 6 months- https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/28 and I am very thankful to my fellow diversity team mates for that :) Great work everyone, and congratulations.

Though, we all are self motivated to walk on the path of diversity and inclusion and committed to keep Fedora a welcoming community as it is now and even more. But, Defining the goals always help us to be more active and regular and easy to measure the success rate somewhat :)

Here are some of the next year goal (subject to discussion yet, not final). Please feel free to give suggestions to add/modify/delete any of them. Team is open for feedback.

Goals and Objectives , 2018

  1. Outreachy Summer 2018 - https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/47
  2. Defining policy for room sharing or single room booking for being more inclusive with the help of council - Ticket (TBD) - This one goes to council bucket
  3. Fedora Women Day - Ticket (TBD)
  4. Fedora Diversity Team Presence in Flock, 2018 - Ticket (TBD)
  5. At least one more new diversity event, which we would like to introduce or Do on bigger scale like FWD - Ticket (TBD)

Please again note that this is just the draft and subject to change. First diversity team members will give the feedback and then we can run them through the council for review. Hope to have another great year for Fedora diversity.

DevConf meetup for discussing goals

We discussed having a short meetup during the DevConf / FOSDEM period for the Diversity Team to focus on our goals for 2018. Most of our team members will be at DevConf and it will be easier to do that during devconf.
Thoughts? Further planning?
@jonatoni would you like to help me organizing this, if we get approvals? Thanks.

Thanks, @amsharma for opening this ticket! :)

I am adding a few more potential goals and objectives from our discussions at Flock:

Event Planning and Organization
• Coming up with a structure for our events (say FWD), so that they are easier to organize by our ambassadors and other community members.
• Finding existing local communities and collaborate with for our events
• Come up with metrics to measure the success of an event

Team Organization and Self-Presentation
• Defining a process to onboard members of the Diversity Team
• Wiki pages gardening: to update outdated wiki pages as well as fix language at few places. Like at few places, our descriptions aren't worded well.
• Update wiki pages to reflect our ongoing efforts more accurately.

We can discuss these and come up with a consolidated goals and objectives list along with a rough timeline to accomplish them. I can help out once we have feedback from other members as well. :)

Thanks @chhavi for bring this up. I like the way you write it in descriptive way and yet all positive and in clean manner. @chhavi++

Definitely yes, January is the perfect time to work on the goals our team will have for 2018. I'm very happy to see what we have done for 2017 and I'm sure we will keep up the good work :D
Count on me to work on this ticket.

For this, I recommend a new ticket that proposes:

  • Primary and secondary goals (what do we want to accomplish?)
  • Anticipated impact of our meeting (to justify using Fedora's diversity budget)
  • Logistics (when / where / how)

Yupp @jonatoni going to do that tomorrow

We decided to postpone our meeting as all the team members will be busy during devconf and we will plan to have one may be in May, after OSCAL, 2018. I will open a new ticket for that and we can plan it there.

The FAD ticket #56 discusses has a lot of brainstorming for the upcoming year. Since we are already two months in, maybe we should discuss and finalize these by the end of March.

Huge +1 Let's make it the top priority for the next meeting and finalize the team's goals for this year.

23 March Meeting - We have +3 votes for below team goals

  1. FWD
  2. Making Fedora Events more inclusive - https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/54
  3. Fedora Classroom sessions/Resources/Workshops related to diversity and inclusion for contributors and teams

Draft for the proposal for these goals with timeline is here: https://etherpad.persephone.cloud/p/diversity-fad-2018

Discussed in 2018-04-06 meeting.

This ticket was the majority of our discussion during the meeting.

Overall goals

We agreed on the goals detailed in the Etherpad, but decided to rescope some of them for after Flock 2018. At Flock, we will organize a working session to re-evaluate our progress so far in the year and map the following few months ahead.

Leading up to Flock, we will focus on two goals:

  • Fedora Women Day 2018
  • Inclusive event guidelines

Fedora Women Day 2018

We agreed the timeline for FWD 2018 felt realistic for what we could accomplish.

Proposed timeline for FWD 2018

We plan to adhere to this general timeline for planning this year. Discussion about Fedora Women Day 2018 should happen in #66 instead of this ticket from here on.

Inclusive event guidelines

We agreed to keep the inclusive event guidelines in scope so we could try to trial them in time for Flock 2018. @bex raised valid logistical concerns about implementing them. Our thoughts were having something to trial for Flock would be valuable to expand and widen the scope of the guidelines for the rest of the community, depending on how the experience goes.

@bee2502 and @amsharma are tag-teaming a first draft of the guidelines for the April 20, 2018 meeting. The intent is to then share them with @bex for feedback, since he is an organizer for Flock this year.

Conversation about the event guidelines will happen in #54 from here on.

In retrospect, I think we actually are ready to close this ticket. At Flock 2018, we will revisit our goals and direction for the months following Flock.

From now until Flock, we will focus our time and energy between #66 (FWD 2018) and #54 (inclusive event guidelines). Please use these two tickets for more detailed discussion about the above.

Closing as complete! :clapper:

Thanks again @bee2502 for writing up all the goals and objectives in the Etherpad too – the work was substantial and worth mentioning too.
