#24 Wiki gardening
Closed: Complete 6 years ago Opened 7 years ago by rhea.

The wiki page https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Diversity could use a bit of gardening, for example removing inactive people from the list.

This would need a bit of polishing for goals section as well. I would take it up.

@amita Whenever you work on the goals, can you link the etherpad here ? I would like to help too.

A few other relevant topics -

  • The link to Telegram group is not on wiki
  • Old cases of harassment - is this relevant ? or maybe, rephrase it to community guidelines i.e. the page it links to.
  • Update community contacts and current projects
  • Not sure how team members is relevant especially as team grows
  • Add a link to Fedora women

@bee2502 I was thinking to edit in wiki. Do you want first in the etherpad?
Do we need extra step here, when wiki can be edited directly any number of times?

@amsharma We can edit the Etherpad re: goals. The rest can be edited directly once we discuss in the meeting. We can edit wiki any number of times.

Sounds good :)

@amsharma I have added some comments.

@jonatoni @jflory7 would love your feedback on this one.

It seems fairly straightforward to me. I only gave it a quick peek, but the goals seem good to me, more or less what was reflected in the Council presentation. :100:

I have edited the page.

@jflory7 If you update the Fedora community video on Youtube with the latest version, I can add it to the wiki page and close the ticket.

I have edited the page.

Edits look good like we discussed, thanks Bee!

@bee2502 I have the new version uploading now, sorry for the long delay in making this happen. I might have to wait until I get home for it to process because of a firewall. Once the new version is uploaded, I'll change the link on the wiki and close this ticket.

The new video is uploaded here and the link has been updated on the wiki. Closing ticket as complete.

The community contacts list seems redundant. Should we remove it?

I would like to introduce two new sections on wiki page -

  1. Get to know your Fedora community.
We have a lot of content about Fedora community especially generated over past year in form of How Do You Do Fedora series, podcasts and our community videos. I would like to aggregate them on our wiki under this section so that our wiki pages also highlights the diversity in our community. More suggestions on what to add here or other locations (in terms of better visibility) are welcome.

  2. Inclusion in Fedora Community.
We could potentially include resources and guidelines related to fostering inclusion in communities here. At the moment, I was thinking we could include the Share Fedora Series by bex here.

  3. Rewrite the Current Work section to include both our past and current efforts. We could then add links to commblog posts on our previous work along with a short snippet on our ongoing projects.

  4. Remove community contacts list as it seems redundant.

@mattdm yes, hopefully it will be ported this weekend. There is a comment on our other tickets about porting wiki to Docs but I guess we forgot to post the current status here.

Please vote on these 4 suggestions by next meeting i.e 23.03.2018. If someone is against the current suggestion, please leave constructive feedback about your vote so we can use it to make amendments to the current suggestion. Also, I can take responsibility for these tasks so that shouldn't be a barrier.
@amsharma @jflory7 @jonatoni @rhea @x3mboy @chhavi and others too whom I missed.

Thinking about it more, I think I understand @mattdm's comment now too. These rewrites seem to focus on demonstrating the diversity of the community and efforts to support our community members. This rewrite seems less specific about our team and more about some of the work we have done.

I think it makes sense to separate these things out into two pieces. For now, the fp.o/wiki/Diversity wiki page makes sense to focus on the proposed rewrites. I think we should move the details about our team to a new location.

The changes above sound like better content to include on the main page.

This also sounds good. Also linking to tickets as example of some of the things we do could be helpful. I think these changes should live on a new page, e.g. Diversity_Team. This is more explicit about this group and how to get involved.

I think breaking these changes out might also address #2.

Also note that these changes will be temporary in the wiki. Eventually, #61 will move this content to the docs site, but I don't think we should block on the docs site to begin updating text.

I think this is a good rewrite and it will require a lot of efforts. At the moment I'm +1 from all the changes, also as @jflory7 commented, separating this 4 items in 2 different pages is in concordance to have a better structure for docs, instead of only one huge page.

Related to our work in #57, I will also work on adding a few lines with information about how local communities can reach out to us for collaboration i.e. for FWD, sharing resources etc

The newest revisions look good and add in more details about contact info. Closing this ticket as complete. Thanks for updating the page, @bee2502!
