#152 Diversity and Inclusion team as a Service to the Wider Fedora Community
Closed: out of scope 3 years ago by jflory7. Opened 3 years ago by nasirhm.

In a previous ticket, @jflory7 proposed an Idea about the Objectives for the Fedora D&I Team which states:

D&I-as-a-Service: I think this helps us move the team towards a "consultation" role instead of driving and leading new work. We can offer a "inclusivity perspective" on events and community organizing.

It helps us move to place where we can take steps towards the Consultation role and provide advice to different teams and SIGs in Fedora to help foster Diversity and Inclusion in Fedora Community.

One of the examples that we can have is:

The D&I Team could advise the Join SIG team on how to be more inclusive for organizing virtual events.

I'm a little lost. What's the issue here?
I am +1 about providing consultation too but I thoroughly lack context. Also, being 100% consultation seems kind of limiting to me.
Would be glad to hear everyone's thoughts.

I think this is a helpful thing to keep in mind, but I am not sure what the immediate action item might be for this.

If I remember right, when we discussed this last, the idea is to focus our team's efforts in ways where we can advise or help guide others doing more hands-on work. Historically, we have struggled to lead our own programs and efforts because of limited volunteer time and life happening in unexpected ways.

I suggest the path forward is for us as a team to be careful about leading new work, and instead seek out more opportunities to collaborate with other teams in Fedora. Perhaps we could rope this into the Event Guidelines discussion in #54.

@nasirhm, since you opened this ticket, what do you suggest?
