#14 Merge the data of Community_working_group with diversity team
Closed: Fixed 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by amsharma.

We have an existing group in fedora, which used to operate under Jared Smith.
Here are the wiki pages -

  1. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Community_working_group
  2. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Community_working_group/CoC_Enforcement

We can use this data and approaches and merge it with diversity.
I have noticed, they have had a private email too, it will be great, if we can use the same for reporting diversity issues, as it is more or less same.

I had a short chat with a member of this group in regard to their approach and here it is -

<Amita> FranciscoD, I have seen you were part of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Community_working_group
<Amita> FranciscoD, I would like to talk to you about it later when you have time
<FranciscoD> Amita: sure thing
<FranciscoD> I was wondering if the CWG was required given that the diversity group etc are now in place
<FranciscoD> but sure, we can talk about it :)
<Amita> FranciscoD, it is not active anymore
<FranciscoD> Amita: the cwg? well, it's a passive group
<Amita> I wanted to dig if there were any cases
<FranciscoD> we don't actively do anything - it's only when there are cases that we mediate
<Amita> FranciscoD, yeah
<FranciscoD> there were a few cases, yes - but mostly to do with people not being excellent to each other
<Amita> FranciscoD, yeah, bingo
<Amita> FranciscoD, how those were handled is the interesting topic for diversity team
<FranciscoD> Amita: well, to begin with we tried to get the two parties to talk - pointing out where they werent excellent to each other
<Amita> FranciscoD, also, would like to know if you had access to the private mailing list there and if there is anything can be studied
<FranciscoD> as you can understand, it isn't easy - sometimes people are quite stubborn
<Amita> FranciscoD, +1
<Amita> FranciscoD, rushing to a meeting, I will mail you :)
<Amita> thanks
<FranciscoD> in the worst case scenario, we'd escalate to the council and they'd discuss - the cwg didn't have any executive powers - we only make recommendations to the council
<FranciscoD> Amita: sure, I'll get back to your mail asap

Let's discuss more on this in meeting or here and then with collective ideas, I can mail FranciscoD with more questions and asks.

Going to tag @ankursinha (a.k.a. FranciscoD) so he is aware of this ticket.

I think it would be good to see the CWG formally migrated / merged into the Diversity Team. I think the establishment of the Diversity Adviser position makes the most sense for us to pull that name under our umbrella.

An alertbox with the following text was added to the following wiki pages…

The Community Working Group is no longer active and does not hold meetings. But do not despair! You can still participate in community-oriented discussions with the Diversity Team. Feel free to see what we're working on at our wiki page and Pagure.

@amsharma @ankursinha Are there any other actions we wish to take here, or will the header be enough to point people towards the right place?

header is enough here.

+1

Maybe an announcement on the comm blog or something? Just to make sure people are aware that the diversity group has replaced the CWG? I know i'm aware of this, but I don't know if the other CWG members are, for example. I'm also assuming that steering bodies such as the council are aware of the move?

@ankursinha I don't see anything wrong with a Community Blog post, but I don't feel I am qualified to write on this as not having participated as a CWG member or know about their practices. This could be a good article for someone to write from within the WG?

I don't think the Council was notified as I think the idea was just pointing towards a more active group than the CWG for people with concerns, ideas, or suggestions with regards to the community since the Diversity Adviser has that authority now. If we want to officially propose the deprecation of the CWG, raising it with the Council seems like a good idea to me.
