#832 The Bees Knees
Opened 3 years ago by riecatnor. Modified 2 years ago

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- You closed a ticket on the CommOps repo, bzz bzz!

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- Closing tickets on the CommOps repo, this should be a series of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- Mostly people on the CommOps team, but it can be anyone who has an idea or issue related to the work CommOps does

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- CommOps works on improving community operations and internal outreach efforts, in general the effort is to maintain and improve the health of the Fedora ecosystem

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- When a ticket is complete

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- By closing a ticket on the commops repo on pagure

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
- I think it would be cool to use the "bees knees" concept and use bees, hives, honey, etc to create the artwork. We have other bugs and reptiles in our badge artwork so I think this fits right in :) I have opened corresponding ticket #831

Hey! I used the bee from the other commops badge to try somethings here

Hi! Added in numbering (and a little bowtie)

beesknees1.pngbeesknees1.svgbeesknees5.pngbeesknees5.svgbeesknees10.pngbeesknees10.svgbeesknees25.pngbeesknees25.svgbeesknees50.pngbeesknees50.svgbeesknees100.pngbeesknees100.svg

Noticed a strange issue with the background in those files, posting another set

Made some fixes

Looks good! Thanks for your work @dhairya15

Hello @riecatnor @smeragoel, I have familiarized myself with the design documents provided in issues. I am very much interested in improving the artwork for this badge, could you please assign this issue to me?

@nekonya3 you are welcome to work on this task :) the artwork needs improvement so you can modify the existing art or create your own.

@riecatnor I would like to work on this too!

@smergoel can you assign this issue to me please?

@riecatnor @smeragoel tried another one. Please have a look at it and kindly notify me which is good or are there any further improvements to be made.

@smeragoel @riecatnor this is another iteration. kindly let me know what you think

Hi, as suggested I changed the background and used the same bee in a different configuration and a cuter expression. Can make a gif for this too, please share suggestions @smeragoel @riecatnor

Hi there folks! A couple general notes for everyone working here...
1. Make sure to to use the badge templates. Here are the steps:
Save the templates to your computer.
Open the template.
Go to File -> Save As
Rename your file with an appropriate title.
Add designs on top of this template. Do not change, move, or alter the template in any way. This keeps the badge designs consistent. Your designs should blend into the designs on the Badges site.
Your exported PNG should be 256x256 pixels. Make sure to upload the SVG as well.
2. Make sure to use art created by you or remixed from past badge designs.
3. Try to keep it simple as possible while still getting the concept across, this is for people closing tickets on the CommOps repository. That means they have completed some task
4. @smeragoel and I think that the bee from the past design doesn't quite fit the badge aesthetic, I think it might need to be simplified
Please revise your drafts based on this and we will review. Thanks!

Hello @riecatnor , sorry for the late update. I saw that people had started contributing here, and to avoid the traffic, I contributed to other issues for the time being.

Here are some of my ideas for the bees knees:

  1. The actual meaning of Bee's Knees:

Bees_Knees_2.png

Quality: just as bees produce high quality honey while working in a hive.

  1. The literal meaning of Bee's Knees:

Bees_Knees_1.png

This is perhaps the most frequent badge idea I saw on this issue: a bee's actual knees.

  1. Bee's Knees is a cocktail: But I am not very sure if I am allowed to make this.

Please suggest your views on the same.
Thanks!

HI @nekonya3 thanks for working on this! Some notes:
- This one matches the "Busy Bee" badge, maybe try some of the same suggestions, such as making an illustrated background for the bee
- Taking a closer look at the bigger bee design, I think you can play a bit with the legs, the ones on the right look well placed, but the left ones seem a bit smaller and randomly placed. Make them the same size, or maybe larger to compensate because they are "closer" in space to the viewer.. also maybe move them closer to the legs on the right
- Since this is for closing tickets, I think we could try to incorporate some thing to represent that? Perhaps you could add a "bee dance" pattern in the background. Maybe there could be two bees highfiving? I am not exactly sure how to resolve this so I am open to other ideas you have as well!

Hi @nekonya3 these are so cute! Some notes for you:
- I think I like version 4 or 5 best. The bee lines are also cute but I like the high five action you have on the other design
- There is a tiny little bit of yellow showing under the second stripe of brown- I would recommend removing that or making it a bit more obvious there is a stripe of yellow there
- I would see what it looks like without the drops shadows under the bees- we don't use a ton of drop shadows in badges, we try to use color and shape to keep things popping :)
Thanks!

Hi @nekonya3! I really like these designs. I agree with @riecatnor that the bees should not have a drop shadow. I also prefer version 8; I think that's the cutest. Can you post the SVG so that I can look into the design further?

@smeragoel @riecatnor here is the svg for the hive-five version:
