You entered the Matrix, with Fedora!
Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is awarded for certain kinds of activities:
1) What are those activities?
- Getting an account on the Fedora Matrix server(currently not a thing, working through RedHat to get the money).
2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans? users? sponsors?) - Anyone with FPCA+1 group membership, who wants a Fedora Matrix account
It let's them get into all the different Fedora rooms, and with a cool server name. It's also an incentive to use matrix, which is more freedom and privacy respecting than other options.
4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- Once, when they log in to element.
5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console? by using a web interface?) - Either a website, or an app
Maybe the Element logo and the Fedora logo?
I have some doubt on wether that's a good idea: - since I think Fedora would pay for each user, that's giving incentive to people to get there just to get the badge (but maybe that's not a big problem) - some people already have their own server (I do), some others community also provides matrix hosting, and they would either have to get a duplicate account, or not get the badge.
I think it would be better to have: - have a badge if you added a matrix userid in noggin and - have that account active in Fedora room for enough time
This way, we would drive long term usage of matrix.

I do like that idea.
have that account active in Fedora room for enough time
is there a way to track this?

For now, no, we do not even have the matrix hosting officialy ready. However, this could be done if we add a bot like zodbot (or maybe more than 1 bot, no reason everything should be in 1 single process). Technically, I guess one can also get the history of the chan and process from here using cron.
Hello! Are we doing this? Can I take it up and start with the design process? @computerkid
I don't know, @riecatnor is this one okay to do?

The domain already registred but the council is waiting for the upstream to release the feature called Spaces, perhaps saving money from finance. But from the point of view, the homeserver is better for the community. I hope it is of great value

Tried something out for this issue :D @riecatnor @computerkid

This is my first time contributing to badges, sorry if I messed up :see_no_evil:
Hi @riecatnor @computerkid ! I too came up with a design for this badge. I searched they keyword "BFF" in the Badges Explore page, and played a little with the design of "Partners in Crime" (https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/partners-in-crime) badge to get it to work for this issue (since the tag-line of the badge was the same).
I hope this works.

I'm sorry, the quality was compromised. Here's the one with better quality. Thanks <img alt="badge_draft1a.png" src="/fedora-badges/issue/raw/files/1a5c97dbc29467c895471099df941fba82d3da0755781086a0b4d2b99c088c8d-badge_draft1a.png" />
Hi @riecatnor @computerkid , I designed a badge for this issue based on an idea I had. The idea was to represent a few contributing roles in the fedora community (design, writing, translation and Infrastructure with cute pandas; and the fedora logo) to symbolize the fedora community and an approaching panda to symbolize a user that’s ready to join the community, the matrix logo right above the panda symbolizes the need for the user to go through matrix as a prerequisite to joining the fedora community. In simpler words; A matrix user as a subset of the fedora community. I’m open to reviews and corrections, kindly give feedback on this. Thank you!

Hi folks! Sorry I seemed to miss this one :( I am here now tho! Ok, so I tend to agree with @misc 's comment: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/808#comment-725771
Let's take a look at what the badge will be awarded for: - have a badge if you added a matrix userid in noggin and - have that account active in Fedora room for enough time
Let's think of concepts we can extrapolate from that (trying to avoid using logos as well): - The Matrix reference... We could reference the movie, subtly of course, perhaps with a panda in a shiny coat wearing sunglasses in front of a laptop? - Chat room.. it could be a desktop screen with a chat window (I think @dhairya15 is getting close, but perhaps do something different than the logos)
Hey @riecatnor ! Thanks for the description. I have created a draft accordingly. I would your opinion on the Panda's design here, before I can move forward. I also have been going through the guidelines for designing badges. I have attempted to adhere to it.

I have been using Adobe Illustrator and faced problems with implementing the standard dimensions and dpi. I've began learning Inkscape and will soon be shifting to it for the next iteration. I'm sorry for no using it already, however I'd love your feedback on the design. <img alt="draft_matrix.png" src="/fedora-badges/issue/raw/files/720a8be81008340a482db6afcb14cc8f888569b6bbbc6ef2660174f687d1cc6f-draft_matrix.png" />

Hi @riecatnor , thanks for the review. I redesigned this based on your suggestions. I chose the fedora blue for the panda and the chat window on the screen has the matrix green (I hope that’s okay) and fedora blue to symbolize the matrix and fedora. I’m open to further corrections and feedback :)) <img alt="Matrix_bdg.png" src="/fedora-badges/issue/raw/files/564490c33efddedf799f395a111d7746ac0890594e4dcc716a764efc731096b2-Matrix_bdg.png" /> <img alt="Matrix_bdg.svg" src="/fedora-badges/issue/raw/files/1ba756cf82916f02a5ba551e17e2189e023f217fed189bcf7f94d5815694cbbf-Matrix_bdg.svg" />

hi @riecatnor @smeragoel! I tried to play around a bit with the screen's display, using binary strings of 0s and 1s to keep it aligned with the overall "Matrix" theme, added a light glow effect, as the dim light from the monitor's screen. Also modified the background to emphasize the difference in colours between the background, screen, and the table, and give it an overall "hacker" vibe, please review  still churning some ideas to make the keyboard pop, will update soon! thank you!

Hi @zohamid thanks for working on this! A couple notes: - We try to avoid using black in badges as much as possible, so I would suggest making the background a dark grey or add a gradient, maybe something like this: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/heartbleed-buster - the 0's and 1's are nice, though I think it would be cool to continue the matrix theme here. In the matrix imagery, the green text is coming down vertically and not horizontally. in fact I am not sure you can see letters in the matrix look, so maybe combining @smeragoel's idea and yours together somehow would work well. We don't want to copy the matrix style exactly, but I think we can capture the essence more effectively - For the keyboard, I would suggest making it similar in color to the monitor and keep the keycaps on the board a darker grey color
Hello, @riecatnor thank you so much for your suggestions! Keeping those in mind, I tried to make necessary edits to the designs! I went through many re-workings, attaching the most recent one here  I have also swapped out the 0's and 1's idea for vertical lines (which look closer to the intended Matrix essence) + also made changes to the keyboard. Attaching the PNG and SVG files here for your review :)
