#753 Idea: "I converted to btrfs!" badge
Closed: pushed 3 years ago by nb. Opened 3 years ago by mattdm.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):

"You helped Fedora test Btrfs before it became the default!"

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?

Helping test the new filesystem default for desktop. Award would be given for
1. Participating in at least one test day
2. Sending the badge owners a screenshot of a terminal showing df -T

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans? users? sponsors?)

Users, testers

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)

Help the Fedora Project Leader feel more secure about this change :)

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)

This is a one-time thing leading up to the F33 release

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console? by using a web interface?)

On their local and test systems

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?

I mean... butter?

You're welcome to use any of the artwork at https://facebookmicrosites.github.io/btrfs/ if it's helpful.

Also most definitely, @chrismurphy, @dustymabe, and myself should get the first badges... We did it before it was cool! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I can't see any good way to award this badge automatically, btw, unless someone wants to write a "Does this system have btrfs and do I have a Fedora kerberos ticket" service, which seems like overkill. So I would propose that @chrismurphy, @dustymabe, @ngompa not only get the badge but the power to award it.

@mattdm The formatting is broken for section 2 in the original post. Is that a template bug or what?

@ngompa Just looking at that. Yes -- there is a line break where there shouldn't be in both 2 and 5.

This badge is an amazing idea.

Maybe some of the Change proposers are interested in helping award badges to anyone who reaches out to ask for the Badge. If not, then perhaps @bcotton has a clever idea of what makes the most practical sense for manually awarding this badge.

@jflory7 At least @chrismurphy and I are change owners, and we could award them. :)

@ngompa If you and @chrismurphy are on-board for that, then this badge is approved from the Badges Ops side. :grinning:

You have too much faith in me. I can't think of a reasonably simple way to do this except to have a self-claim URL that can be put in a reasonably "if you see this, you're probably supposed to get this badge" place. I'm not sure where that would be.

@bcotton I guess should be somewhere hidden and show up only if you start googlin Fedora has switched to btrfs and I lost my data, how do I recover it? :-)

@mattdm I'm happy to help with giving out badges as one of the change owners.

I want my badge too :)

So, I might have seen some pretty cool pancake graphics from @duffy at Nest that might already be perfect for this badge.

One pat of butter.
Two pats of butter.
Fifty pats of butter.
:D

Awesome! Thanks Máirín!

Is it OK (and a good idea) to mention the badge in a comment in the Fedora Magazine article for test week?
https://fedoramagazine.org/contribute-at-the-fedora-test-week-for-btrfs/

And how should we go about awarding the badge?

@jflory7 do you know how we get this pushed?

@duffy sorry I missed this, artwork LGTM!

@sayaksarkar Awarded. Thanks for doing it!

Well, I didn't know we had to do this as well to get the badge. If I am not late, it will be cool to get it.

@akumar99 Awarded, Thank you for doing it :)

I converted three installs over to F33 Beta with Btrfs. It would be cool to get this badge! :grinning:

It's a bit late for that, unless you can prove you had it before we switched the default?

Sadly, I can't. but this system was fedora 32 to f33 and become btrfs but can't approve it.

Still Thanks for answer :)

@thunderbirdtr This might work, no guarantees. Post the URL from the following two commands:
sudo btrfs sub show / | fpaste
sudo btrfs insp dump-t -t 1 /dev/sdXY | grep -A 6 "FS_TREE ROOT_ITEM 0) i" | fpaste
Substitute the correct dev node and partition for your system, e.g. sda4, nvme0n1p7. By default there are no files or filenames kept in this tree, just the names of the two subvolumes created at installation time.
