Question about this: In the FAD everyone was strongly agreed we need to get away from the book model. Is the idea here to take each book and pull it apart, where possible, into smaller topical articles for asciidoc?

Yes, the idea is to convert the books to asciidoc and then edit the content to be standalone topics.
