Similar to aws-cli. Users can decide the prefered output format which
is the most easily parseable one for them.

+1, I like this idea

The name of --output is IMHO unfortunate because I would expect it to be an equivalent to > pipe. IMHO --output-format would be a bit better but as you said, aws-cli also has --output so let's just stick with that.
