From the event wiki page

...a FAD (a mini-conference) focused on recruiting (and enabling the recruitment of) new
contributors to Fedora via the Fedora and various other DevOps projects like Ansible.

FAD is a 'Fedora Activity Day', meant for Fedora contributors to come together and work
on bugs/features/tasks etc. It is not really meant to initiate or introduce Fedora to new audience via speaker sessions/talks.

The agenda looks quite haphazard. It says ...

o introduce participants to Pagure , Fedora QA , Fedora infra .
To help them find the paths to their first contributions

and follows it with

Primary Goals
Introducing the participants to the Fedora Land Getting Started Sessions (Kubernetes):
Introducing participants to start working with kubernetes on Fedora.
Getting Started Sessions (Performance Testing): Making the participants how to run
performance tests and use different open source performance tools to understand
their system performance. Hands on Automation using Ansible
Onboarding new contributors: Redirect/Mentor new contributors to appropriate
communication channels of Fedora based on contributors field of interest.

That is lot of heavy material for a new contributor to start with, all in one day.

Infrastructure by college
1. Classroom with Projector and internet with capacity of ~80 people. 2. Lab with systems and internet.

If Fedora ambassadors are going to a college and conducting an event there, I don't think we need to spend $50 and provide snacks/drinks to the participants.

Since it's a FAD , we were mainly focusing participants to make some "functional" contribution to Fedora.

People who will participate will have prior knowledge to some of these technologies which will be talked about and the focus will mainly be on how to align some of these skillset in a student to leverage upstream contribution. Also, with modularity coming along with F27 , it will be added advantage to have the upstream contributors understand containers and how to orchestration.

Saurabh is not an FAm.He's been trying to work this event out with Amit and me. I would really appreciate if someone can point me to any SOP which talks about what are the criteria for filing budget and for which type/kind of event can we request the budget. Thanks.

I agree with the @pjp.

Why this event is called FAD? FAD is more for contributors. They gather together and hack something. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Activity_Day_-_FAD

I will recommend convert it to Release Event and educate attendees on Fedora stuff during that.

Please update Event page, it will help more idea before voting.

-1.
IMO, we need not spend 50/- USD for refreshments. By going to a college and conducting a full day event, Fedora volunteers/Ambassadors are already providing service. Maybe you could consider making Fedora stickers or such give-aways in that budget.

Closing this issue, as budget requested is not approved.
