#171 Funding request for fedoraloves.net swag
Closed: approved 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by rhea.

This is a funding request for dotnet stickers[1] and flyers[2] for conferences, and tshirts[1] for contributors. The idea is to spread the word about the ease of development using dotnet on Fedora.

500x Stickers - 148$ USD
200x Flyers - 716.00 czk ~ 35$ USD
30x T-Shirts - 8316.30 czk ~ 400$ USD
Total - 583$

[1] T-Shirt / sticker design #533
[1] Flyers / cards design #555

Edit: Updated the prices to final.

Are there specific events you have in mind, or is this request to have a cache of swag that can be sent to various ambassadors for the events they attend/organize?

The t-shirts are mainly for contributors / presenters of the topic at conferences. Although 30 is a lot more than we need, the price is the same as for 15 due to the large-amount-print-technology used (i don't know the English name for it) and so I thought that we might as well take more if the price ends up being the same...

The stickers and cards are for devconf.cz and fosdem right now, and I will leave what's left after with Brian in his swag closet as cache for the future events where it would be worth having. For example buildstuff Lithuania had a decent interest in dotnet last November...

I am not against sending it over to other regions ambassadors if anyone would show interest, but I think that it would be easier to directly order for other regions instead... From the people I know @jflory7 is the only one somewhat interested in c# in NA who is active at conferences - thoughts Justin? We could take more and I'll give you 200 at fosdem :P

I am interested in C# in NA and I am active at conferences also.

I've updated the stickers to 500 to send some stickers to NA as well, and the prices are now final.

Is .NET fully packaged yet?

It's built from source in @dotnet-sig/dotnet copr, blocker for Fedora repositories is that we still use some prebuilt tools to build the source code. Some tools are not built from source in Fedora. These are however free packages while what Microsoft publishes contains proprietary code even from .net framework, and are under their microsoft license, similar to VSCode's licenses...

I could also add that we're getting more engineering power towards these packages (both RH and Fedora) after the conferences - specifically a dedicated QA engineer.

The council approves this, with the note that we'd like to see a plan expanded beyond just swag — more than stickers, and messaging/outreach to a wider developer audience beyond the traditional Linux world. Specifically, let's target some developer conferences in FY19.

This has been added to teh budget. @rhea please work with me on the ordering and finances

I would like to add one more tshirt to this, as we're missing one of the correct size due to misunderstanding between US and EU sizes... Should I submit it as another request into FY19 or can I just throw it into this one as well? The "printer" replies within a minute and I have have the invoice in within an hour, so it would be there before we finish all the finaces with @bex this week.

At this time we haven't processed the receipt for hte first order and the overwhelming majority of the funding is encumbered.

I believe we should not do a small print run at this time and consider it as part of the larger .NET strategy in FY19.

There won't be any more tshirts anytime soon - we have about 15 left for any new future contributors. This is just very specific US type of big size that was thought to not be so big (in eu sizes) What I would like to do in FY19 is just stickers and cards, cause those actually disappeared very very fast. For instance, out of 400 cards I have maybe 50 left.
