#8 Use notifications rather than a status icon
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by aday.

There used to be an issue about this on fedorahosted, but since it has been retired I'm reposting here.

SETroubleShoot uses a status icon to notify users when there's an alert. The recommended behaviour is to use notifications instead, either using the libnotify or GIO APIs. Notifications are better integrated in GNOME and don't require a dependency on the X11 stack.

It is recommended to stop using status icons.

For guidance on how to use notifications, see the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines:

Thanks for the report. There was an issue related to this problem on fedorahosted which was migrated to github - https://github.com/fedora-selinux/setroubleshoot/issues/50

Hopefully Martin Páleník will come up with some improvements in this area soon.

Builds based on https://pagure.io/fork/plautrba/setroubleshoot/commits/WIP-gnome3-notifications are available at

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/plautrba/setroubleshoot/

Original seapplet was renamed to seappletlegacy and the new seapplet.py is seapplet now.
