#9894 Build fails with "bad date in changelog" message
Closed: Can't Fix 3 years ago by mohanboddu. Opened 3 years ago by ondrejj.

  • Describe the issue
When trying to build epel7 branch of clamav-unofficial-sigs package, build fails with this message:
    error: bad date in %changelog: Mon Dec 7 09:52:16 CET 2020 Ján ONDREJ (SAL) <ondrejj(at)salstar.sk> - 7.2-1
Same package (spec file) has been built successfully for EPEL8 or Fedora32-master.

rpmlint doesn't see anything wrong in clamav-unofficial-signs.spec file.
Spec file has been updated using rpmdev-bumpspec command.

That's correct. RPM in RHEL 7 does not understand this changelog format. Don't use it in epel7 branches.

I guess we got nothing we could here other than fixing it in rhel7 rpm, but I dont know if its fixable or not.

@mdomonko Any chance to get this into RHEL7?

RHEL7 has gone into maintenance mode only. A change like this would usually be seen as an enhancement which from history of EL5, EL6 means that it would not be put into place. That said, I think any change would need to be done outside of Fedora releng

@vondruch According to https://pagure.io/rpmdevtools/issue/63, folks are already voting for a revert in Fedora.

In any case, though, as @smooge said above - we won't be adding new features (or potentially disruptive changes) to RHEL-7 any more.
