#9111 Rebase binutils to 2.34
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by mohanboddu. Opened 4 years ago by nickc.

  • Describe the issue

A new release of the GNU Binutils is about to happen (version 2.34). This change request
is to alert people to the change and allow a chance for any concerns to be raised. (None are expected though).

  • When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)

2020/01/31

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)

2020/08/01

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?

The binutils in rawhide will be an older version, with fewer bug fixes and features.

@nickc I am not able to find the change request url, but the accepted change request mentions binutils 2.33 not 2.34 (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/32/ChangeSet#Fedora_32_Accepted_System-Wide_Changes) and IIRC binutils-2.33 has been there in fedora rawhide for couple of months now.

Also, does it require mass rebuild?

@mohanboddu this may be in reference to a Fedora 33 proposal that has yet to be announced: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/BINUTILS234

RelEng acknowledges the change and will include it for mass rebuild for F33

@nickc So, are we going with binutils 2.35 or 2.34 for F33 release? Mass rebuild for f33 is scheduled for next week.

2.35. I am making the release this weekend. :-)
