Yes it should, why I mentioned "bodhi should handle this better", but as maintainer(s), you can also take notice if you receive any emails from bodhi about "Obsoleted" updates (or the lack thereof) and take appropriate action. no?

Yes, but I didn't get notice about the 4.0.3 update, cause it had been released by another person with a series of other packages. Sorry for that.
