#5284 Create Fedora 18 Alpha test compose (TC) and release candidate (RC)
Closed: Fixed None Opened 10 years ago by adamwill.

It's time to start doing Fedora 18 Alpha candidate builds:

"Create Alpha Test Compose (TC) - Tue 2012-07-31" - the schedule is a week out, so the correct date is 2012-08-07, and we just completed Branching today. For this release let's try combining the TC and RC tickets into one - I'm not sure that separating them is of any particular use.

We do not have any 'exception' builds to pull into the compose at this time. I believe the plan is to try and use livemedia-creator to compose the live images, but livecd-creator should still be viable as a fallback.

The Deliverables SOP is still in draft status, but it may be useful as a reference: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_releng_SOP_deliverables .

Note - spin-kickstarts hasn't been branched for F18 yet, and master is still pointing to Rawhide, so that needs fixing before we spin.

We will need to drop shotwell from the composes at least for TC1:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=844510 is not fixed, and looks like it won't be fixed for a few days.

we do not currently have any livecds, creation of them needs some koji development work i plan to have done by the end of the week.

Requesting a TC2. We need to pull in:

It fixes a showstopper bug in anaconda that causes it to fail to startup at all, complaining about program.log being missing. (We haven't filed this bug as it was already fixed in anaconda, just needs the new compose).

Ideally we also need to sort out https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=847644 , but that isn't actually crucial: a TC2 with the new anaconda that still suffers from 847644 would still be much better than the current TC1. It would allow us to use the 847644 workaround to actually get some testing done. We're rather behind schedule already, so we really want to get TC2 composed with or without an 847644 fix today or tomorrow. Thanks!

Just a reminder for whenever there are Lives, that the 32-bit arch name is supposed to change from i686 to i386 ( https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5109 ).

BTW, the name 18-Alpha-TC1 (replacing both spaces with dashes) seems to me to make more sense than 18-Alpha.TC1 (a dash and a period) would have. If there's no reason not to, please keep naming them that way (18-Alpha-TC2, etc.). Thanks.

Updating the TC2 request. Please pull in:

With good luck and a following wind, a TC2 built with those should actually boot successfully to anaconda. We'll see...

Requesting TC4. Please make sure that the following are installed in the build environment:

Lives are still MIA, i will make them tuesday morning. Need to do additional koji patching.

Re-opening for TC5. Please ensure the latest comps from git is used: this should ensure firstboot is installed. Please spin lives, now we have this capability again. Please ensure fatrat is included in the build: it was listed in the TC4 request above, but missed in the TC4 compose. In addition to TC4 stuff, please pull:

There is lives though LXDE failed to compose.

the comps change was not pulled in as that requires a full remashing of the tree which takes many hours, time not available right now.

Re-opening for RC2 - only change is to build netinst and DVD with the correct spin-kickstarts (releng used the wrong one by mistake for RC1).

Re-opening for RC3, we're hoping this will be the last...

Please use the latest comps for the compose - make sure there's been a mash since http://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/comps.git/commit/?id=e863360d2e620d8f505b3c09d78568cc8ec02510 landed (for https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=856399 ). Please use https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2012-13538/livecd-tools-18.10-1.fc18 to compose the live images (for https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=854818 ).

Please pull the following, in addition to all previous. Some of these have hit stable already, but listing them in case there hasn't been a compose yet.

There is a yum build available for an accepted NTH bug but we choose not to pull it, as it has several changes beyond the NTH fix and we don't want to de-stabilize things at this point.
