#12787 Untag graphviz-13.0.1-2.fc43 and graphviz-13.0.1-2.eln150 (and the 13.0.1-1 builds too)
Closed: Fixed 24 days ago by patrikp. Opened 24 days ago by adamwill.

  • Describe the issue
    graphviz 13 bumps several library sonames:
  • libcdt.so.5 -> libcdt.so.6
  • libcgraph.so.6 -> libcgraph.so.7
  • libgvc.so.6 -> libgvc.so.7

These bumps were unannounced and there appears to have been no effort to co-ordinate a rebuild of dependent packages. Dependent packages include:

  • ImageMagick-libs
  • cutter-re
  • gazebo-libs
  • kgraphviewer-libs
  • libgda5-tools
  • libyui-qt-graph
  • nip2
  • python3-pygraphviz
  • root-graf-gviz
  • valadoc

All of these are now broken.

  • When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)
    ASAP

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)
    When all dependent packages are rebuilt

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?
    All dependent packages cannot be installed, openQA tests will continue to fail due to the ImageMagick-libs dependency breaking dnf -y --best update

We also need to untag the 13.0.1-1 builds to get back to graphviz-12.2.1-9 .

From now on, please check with me before untagging ELN packages. Not all of the packages on that list are in ELN, and the few that are were already rebuilt, as noted in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/graphviz/pull-request/23 (which should prevent this from occurring again in the future). As a result, ELN repoclosure was fine wrt these packages, and untagging only graphviz actually broke those rebuilds. I have retagged the ELN build only to fix ELN, but someone needs to organize a rebuild of all the affected packages in rawhide (side-tag) ASAP.

Oh, sorry. But didn't you tell me before to include ELN packages in the request when requesting untags for Rawhide?

We should untag vala-0.56.18-2.fc43 and kgraphviewer-25.04.2-2.fc43 I guess, since @yselkowitz rebuilt them. Yaakov, when there is a world-breaking unannounced soname bump like this, it is probably better to get together in matrix (releng or quality or devel) and agree a strategy rather than just start rebuilding things piecemeal, that makes it more complicated...

My comment was directed to releng, as not everyone filing such tickets is as aware of ELN as you are.

Yes, I want to be aware when things may need untagging, and in most cases a package untagged in rawhide will also need the same done in ELN, but there are exceptions, and this happened to be one. I'm not part of releng, so I didn't see this ticket, and only noticed this got untagged upon reviewing the logs from the latest ELN compose.
