#1242 block conexusmm from rawhide
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by alexlan.

conexus includes C++ bindings, obsoleting the separate conexusmm package. See:

{{{
Provides conexus-gtkmm = 0.5.98-1.fc11
conexus-gtkmm(x86-32) = 0.5.98-1.fc11
conexusmm = 0.5.98

Obsoletes conexusmm < 0.5.1
}}}

from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/rpminfo?rpmID=948378

I reported this here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=199020#c4

but the maintainer has yet to take action and follow the full retirement procedure, so I am filing the bug on his behalf, so conexusmm should be blocked from rawhide as it is causing broken deps:

{{{
Broken deps for i386

conexusmm-0.5.0-6.fc8.i386 requires libpapyrusmm.so.0
conexusmm-devel-0.5.0-6.fc8.i386 requires libpapyrusmm.so.0

}}}

As far as I can tell, none of the retirement procedure has been followed. I'd be happy to block it, but has the maintainer agreed and if so, why haven't they put dead.package in CVS?

Because most maintainers don't know they are supposed to do that. I already poked the maintainer (via the review bug) and didn't get any response for several days. If you look at the Obsoletes and Provides in the package as well as the upstream download area:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151197

it's obviosu that conexusmm is now merged into conexus

Yes, it is. So get the maintainer to do the work outlined in

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/PackageEndOfLife

and I'll be happy to block it.

Right, but my point is that fixing broken deps in rawhide shouldn't be held hostage to a non-responsive maintainer. I have tried to contact him, but no response as yet.

Could you perhaps contact his sponsor?

While the technical changes appear obviously correct, I'm quite hesitant to block someone's package that hasn't been properly EOL'd and hasn't had at least some kind of acknowledgement from the maintainer or their sponsor when the AWOL maintainers process hasn't been done either.

Broken deps happen in rawhide daily. There is no urgency at this point.

Everything should be in order now to block it from rawhide.

Maintainer has completed EOL procedure now with dead.package in CVS:

http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/conexusmm/devel/dead.package?revision=1.1&view=markup

This can be blocked now.

Also #comment:6 is from the maintainer.

Blocked from dist-f11. Thanks to all.
