Is ready for alpha. It fixes an issue where in firstboot (or anywhere) smolt as a client would fail. Not letting this by doesn't really cause any problems to the user, just that they wouldn't be able to submit their smolt profiles until they updated to the package.
It does cause a blank info page in firstboot that would be confusing.
+1, not really critical, but it would mean we'd lose a lot of Alpha smolt profiles.
