#12283 Unretire python-importlib-resources
Opened 22 days ago by lecris. Modified 12 hours ago

Name of the package?

python-importlib-resources

FAS username of the new maintainer?

lecris

Branches that you need it to be unretired for?

rawhide and all other Fedora branches

Package re-review BZ URL?

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2307512

Any extra information?

Not sure if EPEL9 also needs some special procedure, or would I be able to just request branch when it's ready?

Could you please provide a bit more background/information? The package has a main admin (@ktdreyer) and its dead.package file [0] shows that it's an EPEL8-only package.

That is, @ktdreyer could add you as an admin and I can unblock the relevant Koji tags (F39, F40, F41, F42).

A summary of this is that when python-importlib-resources was initially reviewed, it was thought that it would only contain backports for python<3.6. Things have changed, and this package behaves like importlib.metadata, typing_extensions etc., i.e. it contains various bug-fixes and further backports for later python versions as well. After re-review we have concluded that we should package and maintain it similarly to those other packages as well.

Iiuc because rawhide is dead.package we still need to go through the unretiring process for this package right? As for rights to the package, I am ok with whatever solution, @ktdreyer how would you like to do this?

I reverted the retirement commit [0] and unblocked F39, F40, F41, F42 tags in Koji.

Can this be closed? Not sure there is anything more for RelEng to do here.
I realize you are not yet an admin, I could add you, but the package is not orphaned and already has a main admin so I'm hesitant to do so.

You can close it now. I will email @ktdreyer and if needed I will post a message on matrix

And if you don't get a reply in a reasonable time frame feel free to reopen this ticket, too!

Welp I haven't heard back from @ktdreyer so far. It is odd because he commented on the bugzilla issue just prior to that: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2303229

Oh, I forgot one more thing, f40 and f39 branches are disabled, could you help re-enable these. Sorry for re-opening this so many times, hopefully this is the last.

No worries at all!
What exactly do you mean by "branches being disabled"?
When I run:
$ koji list-pkgs --show-blocked --package python-importlib-resources
I can see that the package is not blocked for the F39 and F40 tags.
Could you please provide more information on the issue that you are encountering?
