#11665 releng impact for Change: Drop DeltaRPMs
Closed: Fixed a year ago by decathorpe. Opened a year ago by decathorpe.

Following up from discussions on the devel mailing list a few months ago, I've filed a Change proposal for dropping Delta RPMs for Fedora 40:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Drop_Delta_RPMs

I am filing this ticket because there will be an impact on Release Engineering, i.e. compose configuration will need to be modified to skip generation of Delta RPMs for Fedora 40+.

Yep. This will need changes in bodhi config and pungi-fedora, but shouldn't be a big problem.

This change has now been approved by FESCo:
https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/3070

If you point me at where to change pungi and bodhi configs, I can work on filing PRs for them.

For pungi/rawhide composes: https://pagure.io/pungi-fedora

For bodhi / updates composes: https://pagure.io/fedora-infra/ansible under roles/bodhi2/base/templates/rpm

Sorry that this took me so long!

It looks like rawhide composes haven't had delta rpms enabled for ages:
https://pagure.io/pungi-fedora/blob/main/f/fedora.conf#_61

I submitted a PR for the bodhi ansible stuff:
https://pagure.io/fedora-infra/ansible/pull-request/1676

Please let me know if there's anything else, or if I missed something.

I think this should now be addressed from the releng / infra side? Unless I missed something, feel free to close this ticket.

Hello @decathorpe,

Thanks for opening this ticket and for all the work, the mass rebuild is scheduled for Wed 2024-01-17. We will have to keep in mind that we don't re-enable it at the time of branching.

Please let us know if there is anything else on the releng end!

I think it's done for good. As far as I can tell (I might be wrong), all places where DeltaRPM support could be enabled, it is disabled for Fedora 39+.
