F36 system-wide change: GNU Toolchain update for F36 (gcc 12, glibc 2.35)
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GNUToolchainF36

  • Describe the issue:
We are requesting a mass rebuild for the toolchain update to the latest gcc and glibc.

  • When do you need this? (YYYY/MM/DD)
By the mass rebuild scheduled date.

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (YYYY/MM/DD)
After the mass rebuild scheduled date.

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?
gcc 12 and glibc 2.35 would still be a part of F36, but some packages would not have been built against the updated system compiler and may fail to build at a later date.

Notes:

  • glibc has been doing weekly rawhide rebases to upstream for the last 6 months as usual and fixing integration issues as they arise.

  • gcc 12 is being tested outside of rawhide to build packages and will be integrated before the mass rebuild. GCC enters stage 4 "bug fixing" during January and so all active development is complete.

  • We have the libffi 3.4 SONAME bump that also needs a mass rebuild (delayed from f35 to f36) https://pagure.io/releng/issue/10213
