#10112 Fedora Python Classroom Lab: Switch from armhfp to aarch64
Closed: Fixed 2 years ago by humaton. Opened 2 years ago by churchyard.

  • Describe the issue

I'd like to switch from armhfp to aarch64 for the Fedora Python Classroom Lab images for Rawhide (Fedora 35+)

  • When do you need this? (2021-08-10)

Ideally, before branching.

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? (N/A)

This will always be useful.

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?

The armhfp architecture is getting less and less popular. Building the Lab for it seems like a waste of resources. Also, it keeps randomly failing. If we cannot switch to aarch64, at least we should stop producing armhfp.

Note: I don't think this necessitates a change proposal and/or a FESCo ticket, but let me know if I should do either of those.

Thanks

Well, we seem to already be producing both aarch64 and armv7:

https://pagure.io/pungi-fedora/blob/main/f/fedora.conf#_445

So, I guess you just want to drop the armv7 one?

I was not aware.

https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/releases/34/Labs/ only has the armhfp one (and x86_64).

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/PythonClassroomLab listed:

Labs/i386/iso/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Live-i386-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.iso
Labs/x86_64/iso/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Live-x86_64-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.iso
Labs/armhfp/images/Fedora-Python-Classroom-armhfp-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_-sda.raw.xz
Labs/i386/images/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Vagrant-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.i386.vagrant-libvirt.box
Labs/i386/images/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Vagrant-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.i386.vagrant-virtualbox.box
Labs/x86_64/images/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Vagrant-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.x86_64.vagrant-libvirt.box
Labs/x86_64/images/Fedora-Python-Classroom-Vagrant-_RELEASE_MILESTONE_.x86_64.vagrant-virtualbox.box

I assume the i386 ones are gone now due to the general "no more i686 Fedora images" thing. That leaves x86_64 + armhfp images only. Now I would like to replace the armhfp one with aarch64, if possible.

https://pagure.io/pungi-fedora/pull-request/1032 should fix the problem of not generating the aarch64 image

So, the compose started composing aarch64 image - https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=68673506

But that is failing due to size issues. That can be fixed by increasing the size but @churchyard can you take a look at it and see why it needs 1.8G more before increasing the size?

Where do I look? I've examined the logs, but I cannot find a list of packages that were being installed during the failure.

Hi @churchyard, so do you want releng to drop the armhfp? If so we can do this after the beta freeze.
