Store the status of a mirror operation somewhere that's viewable. At least save the file counts and such so the admin can take a guess at whether a run is supposed to be taking ages. Currently you have to trawl through the tmp directory to get these things, because you don't get the cron email until after the run has completed.
So now we have a rsync logging to a file which is processed afterwards, which is part of what's needed. Maintaining a "status" file with more open permissions which includes pointers to that and some other info would be easy.
