#746 Ability to be CCed in bugs
Closed: Fixed 7 years ago Opened 8 years ago by fale.

It would be nice to have something like the bugzilla CC feature so a person can "follow" the bugs that he/she care of without being the reporter

It works in the same way as github, comment and you're subscribed

Hi all,

nirik stopped by in the CommOps meeting on Tuesday and asked us a few questions about what we use Trac for and how we use it. I think it would be really cool for us to move from Trac to Pagure, but there are some important things we use Trac for that we'd like to see used in Pagure as well.

This is one that, in my eyes, is a big part of why Trac is useful. If we need to bring someone's attention to a ticket or task, we can CC their FAS username or an email address, and that person / email will receive notifications from the ticket. This can also be useful for automatic mailing list notifications for specific issues / tickets (like a high-priority task that needs attention).

Having the ability to directly CC people onto an issue is useful in my eyes for moving away from Trac to Pagure for a non-code / ticket-based type of workflow. If it were possible, it would be nice to see this capability integrated in the future.

One possible idea, if we don't want to CC other Pagure users to issues, is having notifications for an issue broadcasted to a mailing list, but on an issue-by-issue basis? Not sure how much overhead that might bring. Just an idea!

Thanks all.

Well, you can simply add someone to the notification list for a comment by adding it.

For example:

Hey, this sounds interesting but I really think we should get @jflory7 's opinion on this.

Then you will get the email about this comment on that ticket (not the follow up though, not until you reply yourself).

@pingou Ah, alright, that makes sense. Any thought about maybe including a mailing list on a specific issue (or maybe even an entire project)?

For what it's worth on this ticket, we've moved to Pagure earlier this month and I think tagging people directly works fine for now. A possible improvement or "fix" to this ticket is detailed in #1293.

@pingou For what it's worth, I would give a  to closing this issue as "wontfix".

Having to add a comment just to get added to the CC of a bug is pretty obscure. At least I couldn't figure it out till I found this bug report.

And it generates lots of empty comments or comments that just say "subscribe", "please keep me informed", etc. just for people wanting to add or delete themselves from the bug CC list.

BTW. How do you remove yourself from a bug CC list after having left a comment?

Looking back at this ticket, I think I misunderstood the concept mentioned in the original issue. I also agree with @mjw with regards to this. It would be nice to have a "Subscribe"/"Unsubscribe" button for issues. :)

We are also moving off of trac and are most likely going to use Pagure for our upstream ticketing tool. Having an easy way to subscribe/unsubscribe to an Issue is very important to us. I hope this issue/feature is reconsidered. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up, this ticket has actually been fixed in https://pagure.io/pagure/pull-request/1510
