#4985 pagure.io should prominently link to a page that advertises and explains itself to new people
Opened 3 years ago by iankelling. Modified 3 years ago

Right now, from https://pagure.io without being logged in, the best options seem to be clicking "About" at the bottom, which doesn't really say what pagure.io is about. The "pagure" link is confusing because it's unclear at first read whether it is linking to "this pagure instance", which is where I just came from. The other best option seems to be the documentation link which has an expository style and does not seem to do the job I'm looking for very well. Instead, it should have a prominent link at the top of https://pagure.io that advertises and explains pagure and pagure.io. For example, see https://gitea.io/en-us/ or https://sourcehut.org/. I'd suggest answer questions like: What is the goal of the project? What is welcome on pagure.io?

Yeah, this is definitely a weakness of how the site is set up. @pingou and I had talked about this problem briefly last year, but honestly I forgot about it until now.

@pingou, what should we do about improving this?

Actually, before I forget...

We could do something similar to GitLab and have an about.pagure.io page that is the brochure site for Pagure that you see first when you're not signed in, and then when you click on the sign in button for Fedora's instance, you are then passed through to pagure.io. If you're signed in, pagure.io passes you through to the normal site, and a link to the brochure site could be added to the header or footer bars so you can find it easily enough even if you're logged in.

@pingou, @hellcp, @appadeia: what do you think of this idea?

Something like: https://src.fedoraproject.org/ is also doable

Yes, adding text at the top of https://pagure.io like how there is at https://src.fedoraproject.org/ seems like a good simple way to improve the situation.

that would be a great addition
