"Heat map" should reflect user contributions to original repos. Ideally this should start as a 1:1 match for the criteria here at Github. The map would show up on user pages like this -- here's the Github counterpart (admittedly for a lame contributor).

By the way, I happened to think of this while talking to Sayan Chowdhury. I asked him out of curiosity how difficult it sounded. He believes there are some useful libraries available that may make this less difficult than I worried it might be. :-)
Yes there are, and if we manage to do some smart caching and gather the data async it should be doable.
