seems only v5 has chksum, would it be possible to regenerate it for all of the files?

Manually yes but not something generic

@pingou would it make sense to add button somewhere in admin interface to regenerate them? Same as there are some other buttons related to regeneration of something.

Not sure it's worth it.I have a script to do it if people request it and it will work for new releases.
Since the checksums are not supposed to changed, I don't think there is a need for a 're-generate'.
