#2095 Remove backticks from email subjects
Closed: Fixed 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by mbasti.

Personally for me it looks very disturbing to have backticks in email subjects

  • it usually means command eval for programmers
  • it is clear that after number an issue name follows in subject

Feel free to close this issue if nobody else shares my feelings from backticks

I'm not against removing the backticks, but I would then suggest a format like this below (using a hyphen or some separator):

Issue #222 - SUBJECT
PR #183 - SUBJECT

Trac uses colon, bz encloses number with [ ], github uses no separator and encloses ticket number with ( )

[freeipa] #3376: Do not do extra LDAP search for ipasshpubkey to generate fingerprints
[Bug 1332809] ipa-server-4.2.0-15.el7_2.6.1.x86_64 fails to install because of missing dependencies
[bastiak/ipa-devel-tools] Removing note about parallel vagrant (#11)

I would vote for trac style (colon)

[freeipa] issue #3376: Do not do extra LDAP search for ipasshpubkey to generate fingerprints
[freeipa] PR #1234: Random PR

Or you can inspire from our notification emails from github, we have actions in subject

https://www.redhat.com/archives/freeipa-devel/2017-March/thread.html#00651

What is actually quite cool, people in team were demanding actions in subject. It really makes reading emails faster because you don't have to wait for/check email body for actions like tagging, untagging, closing, reopening
