#1029 Very simple "forum" system
Closed: Won't Fix 5 years ago Opened 7 years ago by tibbs.

Pagure, like github, has no mechanism for discussion or collaboration other than abusing the issue interface. You can sort of get something by tagging issues as "talk" or something, but then those discussions clog up your issue list. Several project owners get rather annoyed when people open issues to ask questions and I can understand why.

It seems to me that a relatively simple solution could be had simply by making use of the current issue system but by separately presenting some tickets under a "Talk" tab. This could perhaps use a slightly different interface (different default sort order, most likely). Discussions wouldn't show up in searches for issues (when we have searching, of course) but could have their own search method ("is:talk" using the github syntax). They would probably also need different notification settings.

Sadly, I have no time to implement this, but I figured I'd toss it out there in case anyone thinks it's a reasonable idea. It seems that almost all of the code is already in there.

With the advent of mailing list integration, it seems that this is mostly unnecessary. I think that full mailing list support is almost certainly far more than is really needed for the vast majority of cases and that a simple system would have worked fine, but it doesn't appear to matter now.
